Hey guys, been working on a new environment. This time, i'll be hand painting all of the textures instead of quickly photo-sourcing them like i did with Jungle Dungeon. I'm focusing on creating more "Lego like pieces" with this one. I'm going to try and make everything as modular as possible.
Here is the first round of pics.

makes me want to make something similar
One thing that makes me sad is your UV layouts, what's with all the "slightly off horizontal" angles? Wouldn't it be much neater, better use of space, and easier to paint if you just made all those horizontal lines actually horizontal rather than all slightly rotated? Don't really understand why you didn't do that, it takes hardly any effort and may save you time / effort in the texturing stage (and especially when dealing with seams).
That's actually a very good point.
Hahah i knew that someone would say something about the keystone. But i assure you that design would work. I have a reference book tittled "LOST CITIES - From the Ancient World" and that design is heavily influenced by a structure in Leptis Magna in Africa. In it, the archway is pretty much exactly the same as the reference. I'd scan it but my scanner is broken. So i took a photo of it with my iphone lo.

Anyways it's pretty to imagine it by yourself. The two center stones in the archway would have to SLIDE down the angle that is next to them... if they can't slide, the next action that takes place is a pivot. IT would pivot on the bottom left corner and try and trotate inwards toward the center of the arch. The stone next to it stops it from doing that.
MOP - In regards for the UVLayouts, i didn't really think to do that, but because there was an ambient occlusion bake i just blended that on top of my painting layers as "Linear Burn" Layer that was tinted red. IT gave me very good guidelines, so the painting wasn't really that difficult. Because i hand sculpted everything, i was able to tell exactly where i was during the painting process. Was not difficult at all. I think that my UV layout space sucks, and that i need to practice making things fit together better. I know i could do this certain ways but each one of these attempts ended up with huge textures tretching. And originally i thought i was going to be photosourcing the textures so i tried to keep it as even as possible.
Zack -The bricks in the second image will probably redone, because they ARE super puffy, and the BSP bake i did for it came out looking like shit and although it tiled, the bottom row of bricks makes it look awful. -- BTW, loving your new thread with the jungle temple. So cool keep it up.
I'm not sure about the spec map. I think the chipped corners of the stones could be the least shiny area.
Dlx - You have a good point.
Here is a statue i'm making to slap onto one of the building segments to hide the mirror seam.
I'd also argue that it might be too much of a contrast to just add statues to an otherwise almost undetailed building. There are plenty of easier ways for the builders to add decoration, like simple patterns here and there. Take a look, for example, at the Erechteion, which has not just the famous caryatids, but also trygliphs and such. Obviously your building isn't as expensive as the buildings on the Acropolis, but you get the point.
Keep up the good work. Would love to see more.
So you gonna make this one? (From WIKI)
