Did you install a word-filter that changes every instance of 'definately' into 'defiantly'? I just ran across five separate posts that get this wrong, it's beginning to look suspicious!
Ah, right. Thanks for that reminder.
I learned most of my English from the internet, initially, and there are quite a few mistakes that stubbornly decide to stick with me.
For quite a while I thought 'U' was a polite form of 'you', as it is in dutch!
After a while it dawned on me that the people who wrote that way hardly ever appeared to be too concerned with being either polite or spelling correctly, so that didn't last.
Another culprit here for misspelling 'definitely' as 'definately' although I was sure that this word had migrated to some sort of american alternative spelling like 'color'. Unfortunately it was only my poor english skills at fault.
er ... defiantly isn't a misspelling of definitely ... it's the correct spelling of, well, defiantly
as in "being defiantly thick"
Indeed, the correct way to misspell definitely is definately or definetely. I guess definetly, definatly, definitly also are good ways to misspell definitely too. It definitely isn't defiantly though.
after being completely adamant on this point i've been trawling the net to fucking well prove it, and it turns out "seperate" has been classed as archaic over the past 30 years. Well, no-one told me. And therefore i'm setting out to reclaim it for the modern age.
Ha I love it, everyone complains about someone auto correcting to the wrong word, but everyone's totally fine with posts strewn full of text speak, no punctuation and horrible grammar?
Cheese, that is classic. You don't get to witness epic misspelling in voice-based online games, but it's almost made up for by the fact that every once in a while you get to hear someone slowly sounding out what should be an easily pronounced name.
I definitely had a problem spelling definitely a few years ago. As soon as they implemented spell check into Firefox though, I realized my error. It might have been before that, but either way, I wasn't defiant to change.
I often make stupid spelling/grammar (another commonly misspelled word) mistakes, when I am not paying attention. I facepalm later when I re-read the posts.
I also tried to explain the difference between "disc" and "disk" to my friends the other day. They were definitely not understanding and being defiant. True Story.

Defiantly would definitely be out of context though.

Edit: I mean misspell "defiantly", for clarity.
Edit 2: By putting "defiantly" in quotation marks there, I don't mean to imply that the first sentence should be read in a sarcastic tone.
For some reason I always tripped up on separate and apparent. Had to use "a rat" and "a parent" as mnemonic devices.
as is separate
for years people have been moaning about this "misspelling" that people have completely been won over by it
basically
separate = to divide
seperate = the result of the division
it just is

TFH RBTL OMG SOHF
De-finite-ly
No one ever misspells finite, so just remember that.
Wow, you muthafukas just blew my mind. There's two words for that? Damn, this is strange. Wow.
"Your a retarted looser", best in-game slur I've seen for a while. Shame he spelled "a" right, nearly got a perfect score.
'attach' some people spell it as 'attatch'
Also, the current trending of "mang" drives me up the wall.
*shudder*
Because the dailyrecord is the gospel of undeniable fact!
I always cringed when I heard people pronounce diffuse as 'defuse'
