porbably dumb Nvidia filter vs UV orientation question

I've baked out my normal maps in xnormal, and I am adding small details such as studs and rivets using nvidia filter in PS. And this just occurred to me:

nvidia seems to always assume the orientation of the image is "up" at the top of the screen- but my UV map has objects turned sideways, upside down etc. Does this mean I should run the filter on my detail and manually orient it to the object it is overlaying, or does it in fact not matter?

I ask because trial and error hasn't really revealed a definitive answer for me- maybe my eyes are bad but I'm not certain it makes a difference. I just want to be usre!

Cheers!
