Hi there, I'm in the midst of trying to take a very detailed organic sub-d mesh and clean up the topology so it can be taken into Mudbox.
What I really need is a (preferably free) plugin/tool that can highlight any tris or n-gons within the mesh, so I can go in and quad those areas before importing them to Mudbox.
I used to use a great little plugin back in the day called 'Grants Poly Selections' which did exactly that, unfortunately it hasn't been compatible with the last few iterations of 3ds Max...
I'm sure this must be a fairly common task for those more experienced in high-poly work, any suggestions for ways to sort out this problem would be much appreciated. Thanks!

You can also do this without plug-ins or scripts by adding a "turn to poly" modifier and set the min number of tris per poly to force it divide polygons by the max number of edges. Since this is a modifier you can toggle its visibility on/off and see where the edges are being added. Then you can go back down to edit poly and make the necessary changes.
I think the STLCheck modifier might also have a max number of edges allowed also?

One of those being equal to, greater than or less than the number of sides specified.
