Hi there!
I am new to polycount and have had a look around for half an hour or so and I can say I really like the look of the community and the work that is being shown here.
I have had a brief search of the forums and can't seem to find any threads on this so here goes.
I am new to animation/modelling and would love to get into it. I would rather get learning basic now and get a head start rather then find out its too late when I get to university.
Could someone direct me to where to start? Tutorials, software, articles?
Cheers!

There´s quite a bit of threads like these but the search sucks ass (Sorry mods).
So I´d say, Pick a picture online that you like and just start doing it / recreate itp. Or better yet. Just come up with a wicked idea (it´s more fun). Then make a thread and get some good crits going.
Do you have any experience at all? Ever started a 3D prog etc? That would influence our answers
PS: Watch ghost hunters much?
Unfortunately I haven't really indulged into the 3D side. I have done some basic modelling in Google Sketchup and pro desktop but that is simple. Most of my work and skills have been around drawing 2D and 3D isometric there and now in my studies.
Wasn't sure what you meant about the ghost hunters thing until I googled it Got my name from an old japanese film Kagemusha.
Thanks
Softimage Mod Tool is another good free 3d app to start with.
Oh and Wings3D is supposed to be a pretty good modeler, it's free as well, though I haven't tried it personally.
The built in search function here on Polycount isn't too hot, I like to use Google Site Search instead.
It's the site of Ben Mathis who posts here and has put a lot of polycounters through school.
I literally passed a lot of my classes at uni thanks to him since I never woke up early enough to go to class and learn stuff there XD.
Downloaded blender to start off with and seeing where I get with the tutorials.
