[Curious mode Activate ] How many people have actaully ordered software online for that huge sum of money?
How many have cracked their favourite programs and continued to do so with other stuff you simply can't afford?
R there b pirates on the Polycount ship?
Scenario - how is a single, young student that doesn't have any money or doesn't actually get pocket money (Altho it would take ages to get the money for software like Max or Maya anyways) ever going to fuffill his dream of becoming a 3D artist without any software? Is it right to crack software?
[I'm not sure if this sort of subject is allowed on polycount but I got the idea from the thread "Anybody"]
Thanks, Peace.

It's heroin, dude. Unless you're bragging about particularly spectacular sexual exploits right now.
All I did was ask a question and got a bunch of sloth pictures. I realise that it may not be the right question to ask here but did I have to recieve such non sense?

Are you that dumb?

i mean, really?
jeez.. get your shit together.
Why dont you go to a bodybuilding forum and ask: Ok guys, who here uses steroids? I'm making a poll so you can vote!
how did /b/tard get on poly count?
Actually. To my knowledge they'll admit it, there's a big group who doesnt see it as cheating and isnt aware they're gigantic douchebags.
Just the gigantic part, see.
I worked a shitty job in a warehouse until I could afford 3ds max.
quit yer bitchin and get a jerb
If you're a student and have no money, you can join Autodesk's student site and download free 6-month trials of 3ds Max 2010 and Maya 2010.
If you're a student and have a little bit of money, for $350 you can purchase the "Autodesk Education Suite for Media Entertainment 2010", which is a really long title but includes current, full-featured versions of 3ds Max, Maya, Softimage, Motionbuilder, and Mudbox. The only limitation is that you can't use the software for commercial work, and considering the price ($350 for the perpetual version, $150 for a 1-year license) it's pretty damn reasonable -- especially because I paid $300 for the student version of Maya 7 back in the day. Autodesk also offers cheap upgrades from the student to commercial version when you graduate, which is a great deal.
People won't admit to piracy on here, but I don't think your question was stupid. I just don't think the plight of a single, penniless student is really all that dire. Open-source software, extended free trials, and cheap student versions are all extremely valid options. To think otherwise (or to convince one's self that piracy is necessary in order to learn) seems pretty silly to me.
Just save your pennies homie, flip burgers, sell your body, whatever it takes yo!
Peace.
Autodesk is very aware that their app is being pirated very easily, and that people learn it this way. Guess what, once a user of a non-legit version gets a job involving Max it means a seat licence purchased by the company hiring the guy, most likely renewed every year. Why would they want to change that? That's their best advertising. They could even consider releasing a full fonctionning version for a few bucks or even free for non-commercial use. They wouldn't loose any money if they did.
Anyways, pointless poll definately :P Bitmap you mean Kayne West is using a pirated version 3DSMax right? To model sloths, most likely haha :P
Lom, a suggestion before throwing polls out there - get a bit more of a feel for the forum mood. I understand the question you wanted to see answered (the point of purchasing software or not considering how expensive some apps are) but the poll is not the correct way to get this discussed, considering the complexity/subtelty of the issue. Kindof like these people always asking for votes, or quoting online dictionnaries to justify themselves hehe.
Sloths are cool
What it comes down to is that if you are not willing to pay for your programs, do you take this profession seriously?
Haha pior, you're completely right, but i dont think our sarcasm meters are tuned to the same bandwidth.
