For those of you that use Maya, BPT has been updated (or recompiled it seems) for newer versions of Maya. The new versions are available on SourceForge here:
if only autodesk actually did implement byron's chamfer.... /rolleyes
also, solid chamfer is a pretty useful functionality for subdivs which I believe is not in maya.
too bad for whatever reason, bpt's chamfer crashes my maya badly (2009 64b)
anyway, talking about maya's bevel just makes me angry
talk about a blast from the past! always wanted to give this a spin. and i don't believe there are decent implementations of these tools in maya (without installing NEX). not in 2009, at least. same old bag of slow scripts here.
however, seems a major issue with BPT wasn't resolved - according to the docs it does not maintain UV and normal info on the mesh. oopsie!
The documentation is from bpt 1.0 what he released is bptrv for his new open source brand mayarv (are we), it maintains the uvs, the docs are just old. from what i saw when he recompiled everything and worked on some issues most tools that are already in maya are still better and faster in his version (i#ve just seen him doing stuff i never actually used it), years after the initial release...
Did you ever notice that Maya does not have a proper MEL API, that it looks sort of hacked together, and that some scripts have not been touched for 10 years ?
Well, this and more is causing lots of work done over and over again because things are not working, or have to be rewritten because you cannot properly reuse maya features in your own code.
I want that to stop, thus I will design and implement a proper python API as a new back-end for all Maya functionality. Its supposed to be well documented, both for programmers, as well as for end-users.
As its going to be open-source, everyone can use it and contribute - after all its going to be a huge amount of work.
