Alright, so this has been bugging me for a while now. It seems virtually every time someone commits the mortal sin of "thread necromancy" around here, we're bound to get 5 people posting in that same thread telling him so(a little ironic, no?). Honestly guys, does information or discussion have some sort of shelf life where it goes bad after X number of months?
So, what i want to do is try and outline some good reasons, and some bad reasons to bring up an old thread. I hope with some simple common sense we can stop cluttering up threads with useless responses and jpegs about thread necromancy.
GOOD REASONS TO BRING UP AN OLD THREAD:
1. Presenting new information in a previously discussed topic.
2. Presenting a new opinion in a previously discussed topic.
3. Asking a similar/relevant question about a previously discussed topic, i'm looking at you, tech talk. Every time i see someone say "thread necromancy" in this instance i want to slap them, because c'mon people, if everyone created a thread for every little question they have it would be a complete mess. Foolishly making fun of others when they post they're questions in the correct place?.....
BAD REASONS TO BRING UP AN OLD THREAD:
1. Just to pop in and say lol at a 2 year old thread.
2. Posting in an old art thread asking if the aristist will ever finish the model.
3. Posting in an old art thread asking if you can you someone's model for your mod.
Basically, what this comes down to is quite simple;
Are you contributing to the forum? If yes, good on you! Feel free to post in whatever relevant thread you choose to!
