Max2010: Align Question

Hey Guys,

I was wondering if anyone knows a super fancy or preferably easy way to align things such as spikes in a row quickly to a face normal, really getting sick of hand placing the damn things. Here's a example of what I'm taking about in the real world(his arm acc stuff)

bah nevermind, someone figured it out here at work, in case anyone was wondering there's a sub option for the align tool called normal align.

You can also use one of several object painter scripts like Neil Blevins script. You can also use a attachment constraint to stick objects on meshes and have them follow.

Or pull a spline off the surface and use the spacing tool.

I think you could even use the scatter tool if your having to place that many of them. Just select the polys and I believe the scatter tool has the ability to place an object on each poly... cant remember if it will align to its normals though... havent used it in ages.


Edit: Just took a look at the scatter thing and its kinda crappy.

for spikes like in the ref I would totally use the extract spline -> spacing tool trick. you could select a few splines in a row and space them all evenly and in a grid just like the ref really quick.

could have used the scatter compound object, and set it to vertex or face center. I never used it that way, but it's worth a try.
