Help wih UEd In Editor Game

I've been working in 3D (in the Arch-Viz business) for some years now but have recently become interested in creating content for games.
I purchased UT3, the collectors edition that comes with the UEd DVD, and also the Mastering Unreal Technology book.
I've worked through the book and loved it, but want to go through the DVD just to get a more comprehensive understanding of the basics.
Suddenly, without knowingly changing any settings, my In Editor Game window is now displaying an 'Unreal Engine 2009 etc etc....' message at the top, and I am no longer able to use or pickup any weapons.
I'm guessing that somehow I have altered the preferences but I have no idea how to get it back to default!
Any ideas?
