its sad indeed that it is so buggy (especially with the symmetry stuff, almost impossible to work with that ). I wish they would work on it again as well and maybe hire some xtra coder to do the bug tracking so that they can focus on core or new stuff.
I could do the same video from 3dsmax, even though I often know what it causes its still fucking with me every now and then.
I could probably post it on their board to get it deleted the next day and get banned (which they already did for one week when i asked for some developpement update).
And yep i guess every app has its quirks but silo beats them all, you can't predict a crash pattern...
maybe you forgot to say please. :d To be honest I was expecting another ending to your video, as in when the mesh goes poof! When it didn't happen I was a little surprised.
It's sad really. Silo has so much potential and some great innovations, yet the lack of bug fixes and the developers apparent lack of support or caring really scared me off of it.
Hopefully they will continue the development of Silo in the future.
Heh, nice timing on the music. Shame it crashes so much
I still have a license but I haven't used it for about half a year now. Too many issues especially when dealing with instances and groups of objects... stuff that meant when I loaded a file, hundreds of objects would just disappear. Really quite bad in some cases.
it would be useless opensource if not the right people would stay behind it,- kind of the reason why blender gone so successful: because of the right active people behind it.
But if the main programmers have no interest at all (whatever type of model) it is going to sink. I have high respect for their ideas that they brought into the app especially UI and usability.
I think there is absolutely no chance of silo going opensource, the "core/pro" versions are here to show that theywant to keep it proprietary.
The link to the video was psoted on silo's forum, lets see what they do, i bet it will get deleted and users banned, but I have that crazy hope they are not THAT stupid and will actually think about a bugfix update.
I used it 2 years ago, tried it again a few months ago and had to give up after an hour: some strange errors and my file was already corrupted. Quite sad, I really believed in that app, since I found the UI revolutionary when i first used it.
The greatest gift Silo ever gave me was one I took back to Max. I didn't have that many problems but then I only ever built some pretty simple things. I stopped using Silo because it was another separate app I had to launch, and I really didn't want to start running into bugs like other people had.
I really liked the way it worked, so quick and light and easily customized but it never really saved me that much time and headache that I would want to risk it.
some instant export import swap button (like the zGo from zBrush) would be what would make me use it more as well.
There are just way to many things max can do and silo not (instances, refernces, modifiers, real scene,..) but having it as a sub-editor for working out bases or do some sculpting would be nice.
I'm happy to read the comments in this thread and on nevercenter board, I think i made the right decision to give a little kick in the ass of nevercenter, hopefully this will get something interesting
If not I hope some company someday think about an application with tool designed to be context dependant and pretty straight forward, thats something i didn't find for now.
I bought this program about 2 years ago and I really wanted to like it and use it as my primary modelling program. I've seen people use it and swear by it but I could crash that program or find a bug within about 3 seconds of opening it.
If they would fix the crash bugs and just generally fix the shit that is already in there and broken I'd take another look at it.
I just wouldn't recommend to anyone it in it's current state.
When it got out it was trully a breath of fresh air, we were all enjoying it trusting nevercenter to deliver quick and constants update like they did with version 1.x. Unfortunatelly they didn't and now it feels like its still in beta stage with tons of bugs spoiling the experience.
I agree with you, now i wouldn't buy it either knowing they won't update it.
A pity really because when you understand how the software works its trully easy to make something cool in very little time.

Nice!
And that was a cool music track to go with the vid
