Hello, been playing more left4dead than working on my portfolio at the moment so I decided to merge my interests by making an autoshotgun! It's gone some ways to improving my newbie "Hard modelling" skills, heres what I've come up with! C&C welcome
2048x2048 ~7000 triangles
Nice job man this came out really nicely. Great attention to detail with the shotgun shells, i'm glad you kept it accurate and gave it plenty of texture work.
In my opinion, the marks on the barrel is way to random and takes too much attention, You've done a good job with the texturing so tweaking that shouldn't be a problem for you
I also took a look at your NM, it seems as you have some shading errors, however they aren't showing on the screens so unless they show when you rotate your model about in marmorset then I guess it's nothing to worry about
a friend of mine has a benelli with a black finish. first and foremost, these things are built to last. it would take a lot of punishment and still look pretty damn clean. i don't think anyone would go dragging the nose of the barrel around on the ground, which is about the only way you could achieve that much weathering in that area. you would see the weathering like that flaring from the inside of the barrel to the flat brim from the shells spiraling out, but not on the exterior like you have it now. you would see more residue in that area instead. i would keep scratching and any weathering on the barrel to a minimum.
obviously i'm really focused on that area of the gun, but that's because the rest of it looks really good, and this part just hurts the overall gun itself. right now, it looks like watered down paint drops everywhere.
fix that noise, and you got a really sweet addition to the portfolio man.
and i can't really totally tell, but did you pull an AO bake? if you did, i would either make it a little stronger, or add it into your spec some to help make some areas pop a little better.
wtf did you do to that barrel? To much damage, or at least too random. It almost looks like it's galvanized (which it shouldn't be. Keep the wear minimal, and in logical places (muzzle, top, etc.), and in logical patterns (more rubbing damage, less grinding damage. It looks like someone took a dremel to the front of that thing.)
thanks for the critics, that helps me a lot! i should had showed the work in progress earlier if i'd known. So @firebert/Tumerboy, yeah agree with the barrel, i wanted to try so kind of diferent metal (galvanized), but looks like it doesnt work very well, ill change it for a clean darker metal.
i don't think anyone would go dragging the nose of the barrel around on the ground
yeah true ^^, i'll erase that stupid mistake.
ps: there is no oc map, i merge it with the diffuse.
i tryed to fix all the problems you guys said, like the barrel metal shader, the stupid nonsense scratches ^^, the triangle bug (i have an other one to fix in the back), and the receiver specular!
and this time i didnt forget to save my post ^^"
thx a lot for the help, C&C are still welcome, and very helpfull of course.
Nice update.
The scratches still look a little weird to me, but the more subtle approach is definitely better imo.
Either way, this is a really cool shotgun you have here.
about the colors, i have many references of this autoshot gun, and it depends, i saw many variations of the barrel color, i think i'm happy with a brighter barrel like this one. Btw i'll make the diffuse a bit darker, for the final shots!
i hear ya on the barrel. makes sense based on your ref.
i would say your receiver and other areas need to be darkened up a bit.
looks like you are basing your color off of the last image you showed, which looks really washed out from the lighting. keep that in mind to. i would say go with a color closer to this for the other parts that need to be darker.

And I would reduce the intensity of the barrel's metal's structure.
In addition, that triangle "crown" or whatever in the front below the barrel, is that an error or is that there on purpose?
heh the famous triangle x), well maybe its more smoothy in the real one, but i must say that the real shape is kind of weird.

btw i'll add some dirty to the plastic you right.

Do you have Brasilian or Portuguese roots Bitmap? I was born in Brasil myself.

bitmap/Krypteia: yes portuguese roots lol
