I really enjoyed phil hale paintings and unreal is the exact word I'd use to describe Kuksi's work, the browser was nice though so you could actually zoom in and see all the detail.
Woah I knew Phil Hale's stuff but just didn't know the name, thanks for pointing it out!
I've seen some Kuksi stuff in a gallery in SF, honestly it was very anecdotical at best. An interesting rendering technique on all the pieces tho, some kind of smokey AO look, worth looking into I'd say.

I'm a big fan of Mueck too. I saw one of Phil Hale's paintings (about 8 feet tall) hanging in the National Portrait Gallery here in London not too long ago, it was very impressive.
Never seen anything by Kuksi before, never even heard of him, but that stuff is awesome!
Great to hear about these artists... Phil Hale is sweet. All my bookmarks and artists refs are at home and my memory is shot. I'll have to look tonight.

Love the surreal works of Dave McKean (although he's a pretty amazing comic illustrator too).

Yeah, I saw Ron Mueck's stuff in Sydney back in 02 (I think), his stuff is freaky and awesome. He used to be a muppeteer...How awesome is that!
Can't say he's my absolute only favorite though; it's pretty impossible to have a favorite with so much talent around.
Damn, beat me to it. His interpretation of Blade blew me away:
