Almost married twice. I guess women hate me. I had an ex for a little over ten years and that was great while it lasted, i thought we would be together forever, well that was my plan. After that I was single for a long time and then almost after a year I was engaged recently but that didn't work out.... O well. Had it worked out I would be getting married in December because that is what she wanted, but I prefer the Spring. LOL

Welcome back Ben! Emily and I will be married 6 years in December. We are expecting our second child (another girl). I just finished up my masters and still work in the IT department at our local university. I hope to get the opportunity to teach some courses in the future. Emily also works at the university still.

My wife has always been very supportive of my career aspirations. Now that school is out of the way, I'm hoping to pick up where I left off some years ago. Time sure ain't what it was...that's a fact.

Been Married for a little over a year, was together for about 3 years before that. She completely supports my career and digs it and understands the work it involves.
We have a girl on the way in December with a dog and cat.
She manages a Pilates Studio and was doing website and graphic design previously, but she has ADD so she does anything that is shiny. Love her to death and we play WII sports sometimes or Texas Hold Em. She played through Paper Mario but nothing since. She thinks my 360 headset is geeky and loves to shout rude things to other players when im on Xbox Live.

Ugh. 39 years old, never married, and I broke up with my then girlfriend about seven months ago. :( Was almost married once, then she cheated on me and ran off to become a stripper. Last I heard, she was living in a tent in the Arizona desert with her "soul mate" and they were all hippy and shit. Seriously!

What, the only two options are conformity and loneliness? pfffft.

Girlfriend and me have been together for almost 9 years now.
I was fortunate enough that she wanted to move to Amsterdam with me, although it'd be neat if we could stay in one city for a bit, so she could build up her career a bit!

Marriage is gay. Gay marriage is alright though, I suppose.

I've been married for a year now and we've been together for 10 years in all. My wife's not really into games (she'll play stuff on DS) but we have a lot of shared interests and a very similar (juvenile) sense of humour, which is very important! She's always been very supportive and encouraging of my artwork and my career and manages to appear genuinely interested whenever I explain that I've had an awesome idea to design a flying tank/zombie hedgehog/steam-powered milkman etc.

No kids yet, but we do have a cat that we will be saying goodbye to before we jet off to LA...

Have a girlfriend and been with her for more than two years. Still having fun together and she really likes what I am doing. She really likes designing, decorating stuff - interiors, bracelets, earrings etc. Infact she asked me to teach her max. It can't get better than that! :D
And she is a gamer too. Loves and I mean LOVES Gears Of War series. Scared as hell when playing, but still continuing going into those dungeons. Really fun to watch her play. :D
Thinking and joking about weddings too, but still a bit too early. Have to get other stuff organised first.
Now both in the process of relocating to UK. We just wanted to see, live in different country for few years, while there are no big responsibilities (kids etc). Looking for work btw :D :P

Been with my biatch for 9 years now and just got married about a little over a year ago. No kids, just a dog that snores, burps and farts louder then I can...such a showoff. My wife is a dental hygienist and hooks me up with free tooth brushes and tooth paste all the time...it's awesome. We pretty much support each other in everything we do....she even let me test my potato gun out on her. She's the bestest!

But that's really kind of off topic, don't you think?

Just lifting, lots of bicycling, and better eating habits. I weight 78 kg now (172 freedom pound units) and when we last hung out, I was probably closer to 85-90.

Couldn't you just get married outside of California?

It's also about the states recognizing other state's marriages. DOMA ("Defense" of marriage act) gives states the right to completely ignore other state's marriages when it comes to same sex marriages. Massachusetts is challenging it at the supreme court level, and Obama *had* promised to repeal that during his campaign, but he's since scrubbed the pledge from his website, and isn't doing anything about it.

Iceland has a pretty good solution where they are just going to make marriage licenses gender-neutral. Name + Name

what? and loose my right to bitch? :D

hehe, if I really wanted to yeah, but the rights don't follow you back. We'd have to move which is our plan. Head to Portland after I finish school and build up some industry experience, not just because of the domestic partnership thing but figured it would be cool if I could get into a studio there, or open one up. He's from there, and I've always dug it up there.

I may bitch but that's because I like to. I'll be fine until then, I keep my perspective, at least no ones charging me with pointy sticks ;P . But in the end screw the ceremony, I just want visitation rights in the hospital.

In the UK anyone can marry anyone, they just call same sex marrages "Civil Partnerships" and it seems to work ok, from what i know.

No kidding. For a place so verbose about "freedom and equality" we seem to fail rather epically every chance we get to actually promote those concepts.

Now if some nation will just make the licencing gender neutral and have some provision for more than two names per document, or more than one document per individual (without having to change religions in the process), then we'll be really set.

Yea the whole defense of marriage thing is completely stupid. The state I live in just passed a law that enabled "civil unions" to be recognized in very specific cases. It was a very tiny step forward, and even that is being fought.

It's just a bunch of uppity religious folks who are probably closet dwellers themselves. "Freedom for MY speech, equality for everyone that agrees with ME, freedom from persecution when I get caught with kiddie porn, everyone else can just go to hell."

No one is forcing their churches to recognize civil unions, if they want to pass rules in their closed minded circles that's cool. Please post signs around the water fountains so everyone is aware what kind of people they are.

How would homosexuals getting married affect anyone in the USA? it really wouldn't besides them getting the rights they should as a couple. I've heard horror stories of gay couples that have been together 10+ years, adopted kids, etc, and one of them gets sick and the other persons health care wont cover them, or one of them dies, and his parents take the house.

My "favorite" story is the one ZacD alluded to.

Two men have been together for 25 years. One of them buys a house in his name, and they both live there and pay on it, but it's only in the original one's name. They raise a child together, and live there. They both pay on the house, renovate it, and it's their home. The owner is estranged from his parents, who disowned him when he came out to them. They paid a lawyer to construct a legal will so that the house will go to the partner in the case of his death, however they forgot one of the two necessary witness signatures. The owner dies, and the judge awards the house to his parents who have been completely absent from his life for over 30 years, and the spouse who'd been with him for 25 years in that house is now homeless and has to raise the child alone and without the house he'd paid into and lived in for 25 years.

None of this could happen if they'd been allowed to legally marry. It would fall immediately to the living spouse with no legal paperwork necessary.

There are over 1,000 legal rights that marriage carries in the US that civil unions do not. Including tax free transfer of assets upon death, mutual adoption, end of life care decisions, and many others.

I'm so glad to live in a country with modern civil rights that recognizes my marriage.
