#model_design is more of a bar after work that just happens to be populated with almost all artists or friends of. So the conversation tends to be more random and not related to art most of the time. So, if you ask for solutions to problems more than just joining in on conversations, you may actually get fewer responses.

You could try some dedicated 3d app channels like #maya, #3dsmax on efnet. they're quite highly populated a lot of the time and mostly helpful and friendly as long as you rtfm before asking noob questions.
there also used to be #3dstudiomax on dalnet but haven't been there in a LOONG time.
don't miss the #smc (speed modeling contests) irc channel on freenode.. i hang out there a lot.. it's mostly Blender artists, but they welcome people of any background..
what's cool about it is there is a bot that organizes the contests, you tell it the topic, duration, and when to start and it would count the duration automatically.. upon completion, it gives you a link to upload a render of your model and open up a thread on blenderartists.org so people can vote on the best model..
Oh man, I was finally able to kick IRC 6 or so months ago, now 3d modeling related channels threaten to drag me back in! I will have to check out #model_design

There's the Conceptart.org irc and all, but i'm sure you already know about that. And it's not exactly 3d, just arts.
Yes. It should be "Friends of PC".
oh thats a pity maybe I will give it a miss then.
You ASKED for them! Plus, you posted the first ones! The one with Marisa Tomei? Dude...so wrong.

#blender
don't tell people about #m_d.
That's our haven for gay porn!
I have links to crazy porn specifically saved for #m_d.
Bear's description of it being a bar after work is very true. I just recently started there again and it's like I never left.
Any link sans the flood of metal youtube videos should be considered nsfw. and some of those should be considered nsfw as well
irc is so 3D right now with my oculus rift dk2, so much more meaning.
