I'm just put off by the victim mentality that pervades American culture. People just like to get one up on you by getting offended by something you say - regardless of the statement's intent.
"You've offended me, my sensibilities have been damaged. You now owe me something, you are in debt to me."
The only thing in this thread that offends my sensibilities is Pope Adam's avatar and my memories of that terrible terrible (hilarious) video.:poly132:
That is incredible difficult article to read. How about some 50% width and a mid tone blank background?
I personally enjoy poking at the easily offended. It amuses me. Have a sense of humor people. Learn to laugh at yourselves. And from time to time you can tell people to go fuck themselves then laugh

you can thank me for showing him some things that have scared my childhood
I am offended by this thread, I want to report it to someone with authority. I feel butt hurt and distraught over everyones replies, please close this thread.
It only takes one dick to fuck everyone!
If you get offended easily, stop being a pussy and grow a pair...
I hate the easily offended, particularly the ones in power that get media censored. The FCC, the MPAA, the special interest groups, the soccer moms complaining about baristas wearing bikinis in my state, the people that got the sign saying "the vagina monologues" changes to the "hoo ha dialogues", the list goes on and on. Goes hand in hand with the politics we face about legislating games. A group of morons think they know whats best for all of us to see, hear, or feel and true to regulate it. Ya, you can be offended at what you want, but that should never result in me being barred from checking something out I might like because YOU feel it's wrong.
I recently made friends with a guy that moved here from Sweden a few years back. Before he came here he played online games with Americans that would occasionally mention free speech and such, and of course as we all know online gamers tend to use the words faggot nigger and cunt quite a bit.
But once he got here, no one EVER said those words due to cultural censorships and what not. Now I"m not advocating the use of hurtful language but I'm also certainly not barring it.
Back to the point. My friend was simply dumbfounded by the paradox of American pride in free speech, but then seeing how absolutely censored we are once he got here. Apparently the real fee speech is happening outside of our borders.
Of course, the contrast to this is when a society or subculture is jaded enough that its members know they can just be dicks and not get called on it by each other
i dont think its about people getting offended as much as it is about people worrying that other people might get offended (whether they do or dont doesnt matter) and getting together to ban something to save other people from potentially getting offended.
I used to say "have a good holiday" in retail around holidays, just because it seemed like the thing to do. A fairly large number of the customers were offended if I did this around Christmas and they'd get all huffy and give me a snide "Merry Christmas" in return.
A sense of humor goes a long way, I live in the states and I'm gay but I don't freak out when I hear the word "faggot" or "that's gay" which is something I'd hear often in class during studio sessions (all us students working on our individual projects but keeping up a good dialogue in between us helps the time go by).
Usually its just a lot of joking and nerd talk and it would suck to have that nerd talk shot down by an uptight individual who can't see the value of a good joke.
Though some would call me spineless for not standing up against the word but I would say that it wasn't directed at me or anyone in particular and it really wasn't driven by hatred. So therefore it wasn't offensive.

i've never understood the "bad word" hysteria in the united states.
although the amount of offense you take to something is proportional to the level of sad bastard you are, and inversely proportional to the amount of friends you have.
if you have no friends, everything that is said, is taken as an insult aimed at marginalizing and excluding you from a society. growing up with a spineless drunkard dad, and a tyrannous fat angry evil monster mom from hell also helps in turning you into a giant vag.
ok guys you can shut up now. My polycount inbox overflows with proof that half of you are pathetic whinging bitches who can't take a joke, so let's not pretend otherwise.
