Not only did the TSA feel fit to open the container with my computer equipment, they decided that I packed it too well and removed the custom foam liner. All my shit is gone. Off to fucking K`s Denki to replace as much as I can. Time to fill out a claim... and see nothing happen because they will weasle out of it somehow...

Be positive and look at it this way though, they'll give you your money back, and you get all brand new parts.
ps: I hope the letter was official and signed by someone, if so you shouldn't have any problem getting your money back.
Ship it FedEX, UPS, something else similar, or yeah disassemble and carry on vital parts, though that might seem even more suspicious at the security check - lot's of electronic bits and metal parts, lol.

I hate airlines so much.... if I'm bringing anything with me that I care about but cant carry on with me, I fedex it. Seems like the airline checked baggage fuckup rate is like 60%.
don't put any electronics in the checked luggage. Most airlines will only insure checked luggage to a value of 300-400 dollars. If your stuff is worth more than that you are screwed if they break it. However if you have travel insurance they'll usually cover it. I always carry my laptop onto the plane.
I brought my camera and $6000 in lens/glass equipment as carry-ons. Hard drives were carry ons. And I had 9 checked bags (large) and 4 military footlockers, so 13 checked items total... all at 60 to 70lbs each, checking in the luggage was more than the ticket over there. I just got back from Hard Off (second hand equipment store) and found that Antec case I always wanted for like $30 and a case for the wife. There is another store in the next town that will have the videocards and other bits. I found Sexy Beach for PC.. was like four bucks.
FYI - To mail everything would have cost about $5,500-$7,500 as they do not do surface shipping anymore from the US.

If I was you Lamont, I would have gone postal. There is no good reason for that shit to happen. If they try to wriggle out of it, kick off and start shouting at people down the phone line and threaten to sue everybody and their cousins(best you can do really, being in Japan).

I took apart the machine, and was able to salvage the heat sink, CPU. The BGF seems to be fine, as the weight of that and the heat sink is what broke the mobo. Memory is fine on both comps. My wifes comp is fine, her parts are easy to come by and I`m going to another Hard-Off to get the mobo. Just need a quad core micro-atx. The 360 will be a problem because my XNA stuff is on there. And prolly won`t be able to download all the games I have paid for if they are not on the Japan servers. Not too worried about the PS3 right now.
Will be back up and running in like 3 days. Prolly sans nice Dell monitor and Wacom. Tell you what, that Antec case is freakin awesome. So that`s the silver lining.
