Dragon Tamer - WIP

mod
Ok, so i decided to try out a high poly character. I thought i would try out one of my favourite characters done by my fav artist. The dragon tamer by Nick Deligaris.

Here is the picture I am using as reference.

Ive found it challenging but fun up to this point, since i cant actually see alot of his armour. Here is a little bit of what ive done. just one of his legs so far. Ive done more, and will update soon.

any and all constructive crits will be GREATLY appreciated. ive never done a high poly toon, so im really looking for some feedback.

Also, if anyone has any good rendering tutorials for maya, please send them my way, as you can see, i need them. ;)

The model is coming out quite well, the only advice I could give you at this point is to block out the whole figure before modeling separated pieces of armor. With a full dummy figure you can handle proportions and never go off while building armor upon it. Without a dummy you could easily end up with a goofy figure, and it will be much harder to reshape the high poly. This is particularly true when your only reference is a picture without modeling pose, where you have to estimate measures by eye.

I actually am using a dummy figure for proportions. The leg probably looks shorter than a real leg, but on the reference picture, it doesnt go all the way up to the waist.

thanks for the advice though! :)
