You're trying to link a website in as an image - won't work that way :P You need to take the "direct link" URL from imageshack, not the URL of the page...
G36 Mags are usually of a lime-ish green tone.
The Pin hooks on the right side shouls also be more pushed out and more coneshaped.
Despite the G36C Version being pretty ugly, the model is pretty neat
Cept the right side torch is giving me a headache, it looks like you took a simple baseplate and just added a torch to it. Did you make that one after some Reference?
Also, why 2 torches? Add at least add an IR filter to one of them, or did you intend to make a disco blaster?
Very nice! A few normal map issues, but can be easily over looked.
Personaly id put the flash light and other crap on the other side. That way in first person view you get to see all that detail. Why spend all that time and work on something that no one ever gets to see?
Welcome Dan K! I agree with the above posts. Great model! I think you could add a bit more grunge, but it all comes down to what kind of look you're going for.
Looks like you have some smoothing errors that are likely due to different triangulation in the baker, and the app you're previewing in. You could try triangulating before loading into the app(marmoset? UE3?) or triangulate before bake maybe
Eraserhead thanks for teh sexae rendering advice before putting these up. I'll be sure to get some wires up soon.
AsaNYC, MoP, and Talon thanks for the help with the images.
Rumkugel thanks for the crits, I'll try out the suggestions as soon as I get a chance.
EarthQuake triangulating before the bake is a good idea, hopefully that will help. When I render it out in Max, none of those issues show up.
Also, I agree that the metal needs some work. I'm going to try what Lonewolf suggested and try something different. I'm going to keep it metal, but try out some different kinds while trying to keep the basic color scheme the similar.
And to all commenting on the lights attachments, I used a specific gun for reference. I assume that the torch set on the side is IR.

Thanks again for comments and crits. I'm going to keep working on it so keep em comin
these can be flipped to quickly change from IR to normal light.
hence that, the two light combo is pretty weird and in my eyes unnecessary.
but thats just for the RL thing
the surefire doenst have a simple metal finish despite it´s looks tho,
its coated with a faint grey/beige color, which imho is pretty similar to hamerite.
That's almost certainly an Airsoft player trying to make his gun look more badass. I'd ditch one or the other, and just save it for the next gun you make.
22!
You sir have improved so much that words can't even begin to describe what's happening in my pants. My only issue is with the spec methinks, the gun rooks prastic to me. But then again, I don't even look at guns alot so my critique is probably invalid.
good f'ing work!
I don't think the gun is airsoft. I downloaded a bunch of scans from the same magazine and on one pic, I noticed the description on the side. Other than the pics from this magazine, I didn't find too much ref that wasn't airsoft.
Here's a comparison:
Also, I found another light that seems to be IR that looks like it doesn't have a filter on the front: http://www.tactical-store.com/ts-fs-fl-m1.html and in the description, it says:
"Finger-length flashlight from Sure-Fire uses a virtually indestructible light emitting diode (LED) to produce a smooth beam of invisible infrared light for use with night vision equipment."
So I feel pretty safe with keeping it without an filter, although I may give the glass texture on the end a bit of attention.
Oh and @ d00kie, thanks man! Yeah, the gun is mostly made of plastic (at least most of the black parts) and has it's vital components made of metal (like the barrel), but I am going to tweak the textures tonight so that they'll look their part a little better.
The high poly looks really amazing man. The baked turned out pretty good. The overall look is really sweet man, got all the little details in with the knobs n such. Only thing I'd say is it looks too new. Maybe add some scratches here n there near the edges and some wear around down by the grip where it would get a lot of use. Can you post your texture maps?
yup the g36 is made from fibreglass composits, it even if banged up alot it will not look like a ar15
of any kind. a friend of mine has several RS G36 partslying around, you find some scratches, but they looks like scratches/rashes on plastic.
Personally, i´d add some slight noise to the spec map, as the surface is pretty rough on a g36.

Yea but thats not the one you modelled
Yours is a normal torch
it seems your "sides" are too flat (most apparent at the buttstock joint), there is more curviness and angles in the real gun. (I have used a G36 in real life, however not the C one) Other than that very good job.
There are a lot of unneeded loops on the receiver for the low poly. It could really be optimized a lot more. There are also a lot of frontal details modeled in on the low poly that will never be seen on a first person weapon.
The spec is making the gun look cloudy. I'd try and limit the amount of cloudy looking grunge on both the spec and the diffuse. I love the polymer frame texture though, don't change it.
The gun looks a bit flat from the first person view, as Crazybutcher pointed out.
i think (based on that reference photo) you have made the metals slightly too metallic, and the rest a bit flat. maybe you should boost your diffuse a bit more and lower specularity in some parts?

Yeah, you might want to edit your post to look for the direct image links rather than the page links, if you want them to show up here.
jk lol
Nice gun Dan; could we see some wires?
Really awesome work!

silver doesnt seems to work though, i know its hard to get chrome/silver ingame so i'd try different material

It´s a normal light, nothing IR.
IR lights look differently and usually are build in with laser units like AN/PEQ-2 or 15´s.
If you want to turn this into an IR light you could add a cap like this:

these can be flipped to quickly change from IR to normal light.

Noob question here. Is 10k pretty standard for the low-poly version of a weapon like this?
Here's an update on some of the work I've done over the past few days:
and some of the requested wire frames, first Low Poly (pay no attention to the poly and tri counts, it's counting all hidden objects as well):
now here's the high poly before turbo smooth is applied:
and here's the requested texture flats (they were originally 2048's):
@ El Burritoh yeah, pretty much anywhere between 5 and 10k tris for a modern fps is pretty standard, from what I know.
