what kind of traits or things that a gamer should have in order to be hardcore gamer.

Do ppl who only only plays a few games a lot consider hardcore as to ppl who play more than several games a lot.

Also do ppl who play flash games a lot be considered a hardcore gamer.

Im just interested to no wut everyone have to say in this.

I consider somone to be hardcore if they .. stay up all night (all nighter) playing a game or if they sacrafice bodly functions for the game. Haha.

if you are willing to spend alot of money in your hobby you are a hardcore gamer in my eyes

flash wii ds etc ---> none hardcore
pc xbox ps3 ----> hardcore

I dunno if just owning a 360/PS3/PC makes you a hardcore gamer... these days a lot of kids have an 360 and a PS3, but if they only play one or two game sessions a week on either one i doubt they're hardcore.
I know a few guys who have all consoles and a PC but they don't actually play games all that much, and when they do it's just for an hour or so here and there to relax and have fun.

The term "hardcore gamer" makes me think of people who play a select few games for a huge amount of time, and usually end up getting very good.
Mostly they play competitively rather than casually - aiming to win rather than aiming to have fun.

Any competitive game is usually a magnet for hardcore gamers - especially FPS, RTS and sports games. MMORPG is another "hardcore" thing but I don't know if it's competitive in the same way, that seems to me more about status in the game world being equal to "winning a match" in any other game type.

50+ hours of gaming a week = hardcore.

Usually this much gaming would translate into becoming a "good player", just as it would with anything you spend more time with.

Its not about money or hardware, but anyone who spends a lot of time on gaming will inevitably spend more on upgrading their tools, just like artists will buy new wacoms/software/whatever.

The only sort of person I would define as a "hardcore gamer" is someone who has checked out most games since the early 90s. So in a way, they're keeping a broad tab on the entire games industry. Only a PC gamer would I consider hardcore, though certain console-specific games could be considered a must. Oh, and preferably this person would be an extremely skilled gamer.

Getting achievements on Xbox or being good at CoD4 wouldn't make a person hardcore, IMO.

I think with the start of achievements / trophies its easier to separate the hardcore from the softcore... and the floppycore.

...truly one of the oddest questions. i agree with whatshisname - if you've been to a 12 hour+ lan party more than, say, 3 times, with only break for pizza/etc., you're hardcore.
