Goodbye my old friend

after 3 years of good good working my old friend "geforce 6800gt" had a stroke yesterday
now its only capable of doing 2d stuff and creates ugly pictures...

the question now is what to choose to be a new computer pal to hrow my pictures on the screen, since the old one is looking forward to its retirement

edit: i call it fried because i bought it for too much money from a friend which was in a money shortage, its still just a simple gfxcard

I've a 9600GT. I find them to be quite decent. I've had it for a while so it's not...that ideal but it does the job and I'll continue to use it (Because I have no money for anything else ;P)

i have 8800gt and there is no reason to replace it so i guess 9600gt should be fine.

i thought about the oven trick, could get me some time to get it workig undtil i can afford a new one, because when its working again, i can raise money to get one of the better cards

ok, the baking trick worked like this
removing the gfxcard made the chipset cooler stop working, and after buying a new one the replacement killed the mobo (too strong springs for fixation -> hole in mobo -> dead)
so i dont know if the gfx card works, but the mobo is dead.

so my hwole precious computer got completely useless, in the time i should have trained asp.net for my job that staarts tomorrow....

Sorry to hear about your dead computer =/ A decent mobo/gfx card replacement would probably be $250. Start saving up!

Recently upgraded to a Radeon 4870 1GB, as they are pretty cheap now, excellent performer.

bought new mobo today, doesnt work either, gotta give it back
gfxcard works again, atleast something good
i got so frustrated that i stole the pentium3 baised computer from my parents
at least it works but is ass slow
i have more ram liing around here, but im hesitating upgrading it with my luck

after a crash because of graphics card issues (the old geforce 2 was some kind of an ashole) i replaced it with an even older tnt2 and upgraded the ram to 512 mb, then i removed the programs from the autostart and now its usable
