Sup guys just thought I'd post my very first 3D print. Sectaurs and 343 started a 3D Print Company,
http://robotthecompany.com ,and I just got the first paid print from them!
I decided to go with "Mouse" from my Mira and Mouse characters I made up a while back. Came out great, especially for the price $60!! I tried some other companies to get quotes and it was about $150+ to even get 2" model.
Any questions let me know. I'm sure Sectaurs and 343 might pop in this thread to answer any more technical questions.
It's a nice solid plastic, not the dusty sugar coated feeling stuff.
I just need to lightly sand it a bit, prime and paint it:) I can't wait!.
Thanks again guys!

I am investigating the printing companies aswell ... some have mediocre quality, some are super expensive ... Thanks for the tip here.
It really helped make the step a lot easier to get a print...because in a lot of ways it's kind of scary not knowing what you'll get and having to pay like $150+.
With these guys it's $60 (the cost of the game) so it's much easier to try out fun prints. Plus, the size just blew me away.
It's frigging really big for $60!

mew?
Has anyone printed anything a bit more detailed yet from Sectaurs & Co? That looks pretty good, but it's a very smooth and stylised model, I'd be interested to see what the quality is like on something more realistic and detailed (think Doom3 demon or similar).
Yeh im also curious about details, and was it 60$ because its so smooth? (maybe its easier) or is it ''size'' based? I want to know what modeling doesnt work or doesnt come out well and what exactly affects the prize.
I would really want to do something for my parents for example and 60$ ish or a little more sounds like a good deal.
haha, I initially read that as you wanted to model yourself with boobies
thats sick.. but interesting....
(Model - thin cloth) + camel toe = teh win^2
The cat looks very nice!
you have to! and paint it afterwards!
Sorry for pimping the competition, guys, just wanted to link a nice hard-surface model that's been 3d-printed
In theory so long as the overall size of the structure is smaller than the 3d printer's volume you can print the whole thing in one go with no assembly, so long as you leave gaps between moving parts that are equal to or greater than the minimum tolerance of the material/printer.
Imagine getting freelance gigs to make someone car looks exactly how they want it to, or your own car . Just load up the "default" parts and sculpt additions to it. That'd be sick.
For instance, I would want this print of MoP's character. http://www.ldaustinart.com/paul/index.php?page=3dart&id=atakritta
That would be beast.
Like some library of available models or something that cost a bit more than getting your own done.
One thing I've never fully understood is, do you have to cut everything together into one contiguous mesh? Or can the printer understand intersecting geo?
http://www.steambotstudios.com/
while 3DTotal needs them closed.
It seems that the more "problems" with the model (holes, intersecting, overlapping geo) the price goes higher if the shop will do it.
glad you like it, parnell! i think that piece would make a pretty badass vinyl toy. we should talk... hehehe...
website is very temp, just had to get something up before the 'con.
more detail - hopefully in the next few days i'll have some nice pics to show off.
price is entirely dependent on volume of material used - amount of details is unimportant in that regard.
Mouse rules!
For me i just needed to make sure that the mesh passed an STL Check. In other words, intersecting meshes are just fine as long as they are cap and closed.

thanks!
