There's a new plugin available for free that lets artists show off their models in interactive 3D....ON THE WEB! You can embed a 3D viewer like a YouTube video. It even does animations! This could make for a really dynamic portfolio site. Check it out at www.wildpockets.com. The page with info about the model viewer is here.

It looks cool. I don't mean to crap on your parade but...

You must first download and install the Wild Pockets plugin located here to enjoy all Wild Pockets content in your browser.

That's a deal breaker for most people when it comes to 3D web content. Looks cool but I bet most people won't bother downloading, installing, restarting and then finally loading whatever it is.

There is also the question of how accessible the models and textures are once they're plugged in and downloaded?

I don't reccommend anyone use this for your portfolio as Wild Pockets gets full rights to use it for anything they feel like. This is pretty much a giant "give us all your assets" grab and regardless as to Wild Pockets' intentions this will get people in legal trouble for anything they post that they did professionally and they will be giving away anything they made personally to Wild Pockets.
