looking for character texturing tutorials

Seems that there are only UV mapping tutorials, but what about creating textures in photoshop? I haven't found any that just start out from scratch and I'd be very appreciative of a few since my characters are lacking in nice texturing!

There are really a ton out there though, even on the gnomon site alone. You just have to dig around.
