current game project

So after one night speed modeling I (almost accidentally) modeled an alien from a story that I wrote many months ago, that inspired me to turn that story into a short indie game! It's been weeks since then and I have a fair amount of material at http://teamhostile.wordpress.com but I'll supply some highlight pictures! I've also already gathered team member and everything is looking on track for now. Crits welcome!

Congrats on starting your own game, but there's a but (and some crits):

The first thing that I saw was the lighting. It has got too much contrasts and is too much saturated in reds. It's hard to read anything on the pics from your alien. You should scrape that lighting solution and build a new one, unless this IS how it has to look.

That green fog is off too. An orange fog would fit better that red lighting than this imo.

The weapon is wip? At the moment it looks like you modelled its edges, put a side texture on it and extruded everything. Well it's a bit dirty.

Haha, yeah we're working on all the composition soon, the weapon is a work in progress and yes i know it look like crap right now because I haven't had time to UV map it (I'm doing all characters and code you see so my plates full!)

Also, the green fog is more from the story side but I will try to make it work!

your sky needs to match the world. if theres a green fog then the lowest part of the sky should also be greenish to match the mountains.

Ahh yeah I see, I wiped that up this morning to look at how silhouettes look with it, I don't really have time to work on the environment...yet.

Just a comment on the sky and fog. The green could work but it should be a much more desaturated green. If you want to keep that level of green a lot of other colors have to change. 00zero is right, what ever color you make the fog your sky should (most of the time) transition to that color range at the horizon line. It doesn't HAVE to be green though, as a lot of evening sky and fog colors are often complimentary There are lots of color solutions.

Desaturated fog is the most realistic though, even when working with fantasy colors. It will help ground the world in a more real sense. But if it HAS to be the toxic green, the atmosphere would reflect that too.

Haha, yeah I understand, I'll experiment with it in a bit - keep checking the blog!
