Jet Moto Challenge - aDFP

Hi guys. This is my first post, and first compo, so don't hold back with the crits. I feel like I'm late to the party, so I hope I can come up with something that looks good enough to stand alongside the amazing work I've seen so far.

I've done the concept thing backwards, had a play with getting some basic shapes in max last night without reference, then searched for some images that fitted in with my design. Now I can work off these, and add some detail.

I love the lines of the kitty hawk, and I think it looks too much like a toy version of the kitty crossed with a sea harrier. I'll carry on reshaping it until I end up with something that looks less derivative.

And here's the concept model. I'm way over budget with the polys, but I'll carry on with the high poly version for a while, then build the final model from that.

quickrender02-perspective.jpgMinor edit. I've junked the back end, and begun reworking that with vector wings for steering. Made a few more edits, in the wings and body. Also, throwing in a biped has helped with scale and proportions. I'll try and find time to finish the concept tomorrow, and begin work on the low poly version.

conceptside.jpgI guess I should upload my concept art as well, sucky as it is.

I like your work dude. I'm considering entering but am a little worried about the timescale.

Ok, this was going to be me backing quietly out of the competition, but you've gone and extended the deadline. From looking at the other entries, I know I don't have a hope in hell of producing anything to touch most of you guys. Still, I'm gonna carry on regardless. I've been going through tutorials like they were popcorn, rather than actually doing much modelling, so hopefully it'll start to show over the next couple of days. I'm still uncertain about how I'm going to texture and render this. We'll see.
