Geez! Can't let Justin steal all the glory. What a jerk!
There's more stuff that I worked on, I'm sure of it. Having a hard time remembering at the moment. -,-
Giant Statue End Boss (32x player size) O_____O
A lot of work had to be done to try and attempt to get a good texel density with such a large monster. Baked in lighting had to be minimal as I had to re-use a lot of parts all over. The monster portion only has 4x 512 sheets to work from, while the rest of the body had another 4 and included a painted 'dark' map that you can see in the texture flats linked.

Enough gold to make your eyes bleed. My eyes, at least. Extra time was put into the specular map to remove most of the lighting information and pick up contrast where different materials meet, as well as changes in surface direction. Helps give some extra oomph since there are no normal maps.

Good job
very nice work here.

These guys would make awesome 3d prints.
Just curious, why did you need to break up the textures into multiple 512s rather than single 1024s?
Great work, man! I would've liked to have seen more lighting and contrast in the top one, but you did a good job of working around the technical limitations. Not entirely convinced by the 'wraps' on his cheeks (I think those could've worked better being more 'chiselled'), but the overal look is very nice.
my favourite is the second one. Nice job on the spec!

What's this shit?
How dare you show this to me? How ACTUALLY dare you? Get out of here and never show your face again, you, you.. you WHORE!
Also, that's not the exact shade of blue the tomb king has on his headdress, which --as you may be aware, but I sadly suspect not-- has been given to him by the Emperor or something, as detailed in the second book of something else.
ANGER!
1024x1024 = 4 512x512
512x512 = 4 256x256
and so on.
I also have to make sure the pages are split up in ways that make sense. Each material can have a specific number of bones assigned to it and still be 1 draw call. So all of those dark rubble-y patches on the giant stone statue are for any cut out areas that are in that area.
I would have liked to have done more to the big guy, but since he was one part world object, one part monster I couldn't get away with some things. Even with all of the restrictions, I enjoyed working on this guy and hope we can make more unique boss encounters like this in the future.
Some in-game screenshots-
With that model and scene there it still makes me think of Iron Maiden's Powerslave album ^_^
haha yea it does remind me of the powerslave cover
i remember you saying a while back that the textures get compressed down? it's a shame really, it feels like they lose some of their pop.
edit: oops. saw your second post xD
if you want me to take this down let me know.
