shot in the dark here,
but, i was wondering how one might go about exporting vector data from google maps? they use vectors, right? would that even be legal? or, maybe there is a resource that offered vector map data. i'd like zip codes boarders, state boards, roads, and stuff.

The USGS gives free data for the majority of the US but not the rest of the world. You can also buy DEM's from some sites. The alternative is getting hold of a good topological map and using programs to extract the vectors but that kind of sucks.
All that blurb was on the assumption you wanted to create digital models so ignore me if its not :P
