Anyone read this?

I was talking to my art director about Battle Angel and how much I enjoyed the story, Alita, and that universe and he told me it sounds a lot like Blame. He brought in the first few volumes and I figured I'd burn through them in my down time.

So, anyone read them? Just skimming the pages it does seem to have SOME similarities to BAA in terms of story telling, art style, and setting.

    Yea i loved blame.

I would not call it similar to BAA. at all.

Blame is ripe for a video game adaptation imo. single or mmo.

    Blame is THE SHIT.

Art aside, what I love the most about the manga is the setting and how it's very light on narrative, with a clearly bleak and nihilistic mood. It also allows your imagination to do a lot of the legwork, which is something that I feel really works much better here than exposition, as your mind runs wild trying to fill the gaps in the story.

    Also GBE rocks faces.

It's a beautiful series, that's for sure. I don't know if the story is really anything to get too interested in (it does improve as it gets further in though), but it's a nice change to just see a character who blows the living crap out of everything without any trouble. Plus there's so many different environments Killy ends up going through, he's kind of like a tour guide.

You should check out the author's other stuff as well: Biomega, Noise, Abara.. there's also an art book he released, don't know where to get it though. He also did a Wolverine comic, but I haven't found it.

Just as a side note, it's essentially mandatory to be listening to the Quake OST when you read Blame!

    This: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gp5N-6noobg&feature=related[/ame] Is also acceptable.

the first volume just blew my mind the first time i read it. Both visually and in terms of narrative structure. Brilliant.
Then i kinda got bored by what followed, but i hanged on... and i'm glad i did cause volume 7, 8, 9 and 10 are masterpieces.
    I highly recommend this manga

Yeah Nihei Tsutomu does some awesome stuff, his env work is really amazing.

It's not really anything like Gunnm though (Battle Angel), even thouth that's also a nice series.

The shorts that were made in preparation of a Blame! movie were kind of interesting too, you can find most of them on youtube if you look around, here's the first :

They get better in the later ones (7 in all). The atmosphere is recreated quite well, even though it's all fairly low budget.

Was kind of inspired by the safeguards when making my DW entry this year, heh.

Not much more can be said about it. Blame! is an amazing series. I read it years ago... I should probably read it once again, now. It should be required reading. :)

I've always wanted to try and recreate something from Blame in 3d. I'll add it to the list now that I've remembered...

Apparently they are working on a Blame! cg movie too. I first heard about that years ago though, so who knows how far along it is.

loved it, especially the gravity beam gun, the story always took second place to the world, but that's not surprising since the guy trained to be an architect

give gantz a shot too, isn't as amazing to look at as blame! but the premise is something gamers will enjoy and it's insane fun.

Have you read the whole Battle Angel series. There's fucking tons, you know. Last Order is the newest I think, and Gally is fucking EPIC-HAX powerful at this point.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsutomu_Takahashi - check out Alive, Blue Heaven, Skyhigh...
"His former assistant was Tsutomu Nihei, who went to create the manga BLAME!"

Not read Blame yet, not even started it, perhaps will now. In the meantime, perhaps the most solid manga I have ever read, Vagabond by Takehiko Inoue. Also has the sort of sketchy art style. Since it's based on a novel, everything ties together, pacing is decent, etc. Also pretty violent; if anyone likes historical fiction or samurai-era stuff, it is top notch.

Sounds good, I'll check it out, BAA was one of the first ever anime I bought. At the moment I'm reading Zetman, which has started off pretty well.

It just occurred to me that the entire Prototype team must be some serious Nihei fanboys.
