material editor not showing up....max8

ok folks. so sorry for this. i have been having some monitor weirdness going on. posted thread earlier bout diag boxes not showing up in pshop. solved that(had to ctrl shift alt while starting to trash all preferences)

SO NOW....my material editor diag box in max 8 is not being displayed at all. other boxes do...chamf, render, etc. just the mat editor. AND when i maximize max in my left monitor....the main toolbar had no buttons whatsoever. but when i maximize it in the right monitor....the buttons are there. and i have tried resorting to default UI.

what....the hell........is happening???

unistalled/installed new drivers
tried rolling back

max 8 XP

For the material editor window, its most likely off the screen due to switching from 2 monitors to 1 and then back to 2.

To bring a missing window back;

1) Push "M" (or whatever hotkey your material editor is) to bring up material editor
2) Push alt to select the window
3) Push space to bring up the "window-move" menu (you wont be able to see it)
4) Push M for "Move".
5) Use the arrow keys until you find out where the material editor is hiding.
6) Hit enter when it gets into view and then drag the window back to wherever you want.

No idea whats going on with your main menu bar though.

wow. genius. never knew that. got it right away. now if i could just get my damn buttons back!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh well....i'll live

ok so.....upon further investigation. when i have max in my left monitor....it just goes a little bananas. but when it's in my right monitor....stable as a , well stable as max CAN be. not the end of the world....but anyone got any ideas what may be goin on?

man renderhjs....i want to thank you for all your help in the other thread and here. i tried that script thingy. everything works except the buttons on the toolbar. when i stretch max all the way out over the two monitors....they are finally there in the left hand corner. so i can grab them to float. not too much of a biggie. just annoying.
