Jet Moto Challenge - C0ldhands

Well well, decided I join this challenge in hope of getting something done for once, I`ve been lurking the interwebz and put together a small collage by the designs and concepts that appeal to me, blended with some real or less real pics. I know this is jetmoto competion but I feel like Id might side track a bit. Right now Ive been thinking about a Jetmoto safety bike(u know the ones before the race) or even a police version, been thinking of an vintage jet moto bike, like somehow a prequel. I actually dont know how flexible I can be with the design, or what do you say Jesse?

I might make my own concept, even though im not good at it Im gonna make it for my own good, or maybe I will frestyle between some desired concepts. Right now I like the Yellow Bike on the bottom left, the Star Trek bike cop and "The Island" bike. I also like the more bulky model on the top, seems I cant decide.

Did a quick sketch here, not that good in the 2D departament but hopefully this is gonna give a notion on how it will look, still not fully sure on the concept but maybe I will change some stuff on the way. P.S: thats not a wheel , Im not sure what it is either, maybe one of those magnetic thingies like in matrix?

Well , right now it feels like there arent many ppl joining in on the challange, thats kinda a shame. Dont know if Ill continue if it stays that way.

About the sketch I think the handles looks like they can't be moved. Are you going to make it like the maschienenkriger bike perhaps, with holes in the hull so the handles have space to move?

And I definately vote for going more towards that design as well. Think it stands out the most among the references.

yah ur right aimbiz, gonna try to bulk it up a bit, but the thing with the design of the maschinen krieger bike(the one on top for those who dont know) is that the wheel does the whole thing there, replacing that would destroy a lot of the silhoutte.

So I think Im gonna have some certain aspects of that combined with what I would like or imagine would be a fun bike to ride both visual wise and drivers position.(did some studies on bikes yesterday). I want people to look at it and say, "Man, that would be fun to ride".

As you can see I did some updates on the old design, added a motor block that is gonna stick trough the body as well. And about those handles, figured that since i got no wheel to turn, those handles work more like joysticks for the rudder of the back wings.

Already started to model a bit today, gonna post progress later today so stay tuned.

Looks like the modeling took more time than planned, still in the process of "base" modeling. Any pointers to design, stuff you like, dislike, just hit me up. Decided this bike wont get a jet, thats so last century...magnetic anti gravity here I come!

just noticed that the front is pretty big and long, gotta think some engine placement, right now most of the stuff is in the middle front of the bike....I hope I can get to model some neat engine parts-

Anyway, dunno, maybe Ill go for some art deco futurism in there....I dont think It has been done before, or at least I havent seen something like that often...Now, this bottle of wine is gonna spice up my creativity!

I really like the curves on this baby C0ldhands! Are you building a sub-d high poly mesh at the same time for normal maps later? If so it's smoothing beautifully. Great lines

yah of course my dear friend >kysterama<, sub-d for highpoly, but I keep a constant finger on the smooth button to really get in the curves, and yah >Zack< i hope I finish in time...

Ok, Im getting there, I hope to be done with the base tonight so I can move up to the highpoly, I just have to fix the front a bit, right now it looks like the back is more interesting. Any ideas..?

I already redesigned the whole back part and added some few engine parts( a heck more to come), I just really wanna nail the base before I go on.

Looks great so far, and the retro hood ornament would be pretty sweet. Only thing I would suggest is slanting those little fins out and up some more so they act more like small wings.

After a conversation with Aimbiz, I came up with this. The grills and the blue lights are paintovers right now, but I think Im heading in this direction with the front, its a lot more aggressive.

I also flipped the small finns too like you said >nrek<, it gave an increase of 75% more awesomeness.

Engine departament coming along too, not long now untill i can go all out on the highpoly but progress is slow, long working hours pluss a pretty hot weather without any form of air conditioning, equals long and sweaty nights...

New Update, the highpoly is almost complete, but I have to force mysleft to start next on the lowpoly. Very sceptic if I can make it in time anyway, would rather not rush this thing either.

been trying a new method of spliting the mesh in parts so its easier to smooth out and place support edges, there is though a small problem, the surface between the two pieces often dont offer a nice continuity, even if the surface does translate nicely from one surface to the other you will still get some sort of mark, but I actually managed to mask it by extruding in a "gap" that indicate that the body is broken down in pieces and not one big solid peice, i think this adds more to the realistic feeling too. Any ideas or tips ?
