Senior Artist for San Diego gaming client

Our client is seeking a contract Senior Artist the duration is 8 months



Overall, the position of Senior Artist is expected to partner with the organization to:

1. Provide a great deal of leadership, organization, and talent.
2. Possess comprehensive knowledge of 2D Art (texture painting), 3D Art (modeling), and Animation tools and processes.
3. Help to determine the look and visual consistency of the game.
4. Coordinate a generalized standard for the art assets in the production path and communicate this data efficiently.
5. Create concept art or work very closely with a concept artist within the team.
6. Serve as a technical resource to other computer graphic artists and may lead computer graphic artist teams (including freelance graphic artists) on larger, more complex assignments. Also provide training to artists.
7. Designate all education of in house staff on new technical issues and tools.
8. Encourage team participation through meetings and discussions.
9. Communicate well to insure good working relationships with the Director of Art, Art Director, Lead Programmer, Designers, and Artists in all requested art implementation.
10. Ideally possess a strong sense of management while determining the art schedule for the game.
11. Develop good working relationships with the artists on their team motivating them without adding an undesirable level of pressure. Insure the implementation of the team structure while driving them towards art completion and milestone.
12. Be very aware of the art team’s morale and attitude while identifying all problems or concerns to the Director and/or Producer.
13. Input in various art team members yearly reviews is desirable.


REQUIRED SKILLS – This section outlines skills necessary to perform the function. Examples of skill categories are:

· PEOPLE: Professional and interpersonal communication (email, phone, face to face).

· PROCESS: Comprehensive understanding of art tools and processes (2D Art, 3D Art, and Animation). Potential managing and communicating of tasks to members in the art group.

· TECHNICAL: Must be highly knowledgeable of Photoshop, Alias/Wavefront, 3D Studio/Max, and or Studio Paint. Must understand and be able to execute varying forms of animation such as traditional key framing and/or motion capture data. Knowledge of PC and console game platform limitations should be excellent.

· PLANNING/IMPLEMENTATION: Research, analyze, and write up art specifications. Standardize naming conventions & directory structures. Possible scheduling.

· INDUSTRY: Game Design/Development. Should have at least five years experience in the industry

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS – Identify direct reporting relationship
On a project level, reports to: Senior Artist (Art Director) / Producer

5 years video game experience
4 year degree
