Same thing to me, I think because the rss need to authorize your username and password so it knows what new post to show up in ur reader?
I tried clicking on rss icon in the index, but in google reader it only shows new thread/topic being made and only show the first post. This is different from when I click 'New posts' from the forum.
Maybe what jocose and I expect is that everytime there's somebody replied the thread, it shows in google reader as rss update, this way we don't have to stumble upon few forums and could save time.

How do we access this?
Your RSS feed reader will also be able to autodetect the feed when you give it the boards URL, or the URL of a forum you want to track in particular.
I think you can subscribe to the forum or to individual threads
Edit - simul-post
I can't really get it working to my liking, not my thing I guess.

Yeah, the default vBulletin RSS stuff doesn't do that, I guess. It's just a generic feed for the whole board or individual forums.
Maybe someone can find a vBulletin mod/plugin/something that does that.
