Infamous is more elegant and refined in design, with more of a focus on ranged combat, while Prototype is truth be told - more frenetic and fun. Prototype is more of a spectacle and puts more power and choice in the hands of the player.
It's my first shipped title, so it's rather exciting.
I'm waiting to make it over to Brian's place to try out his copy, maybe after the launch party on sat. I know you all worked pretty hard on this one, Grats!!
been keenly anticipating this game and got the PC version today.
Sorry to say but the performance is horrid...
I know this is not the case for all PC users, but if you scour boards there is definitely a good deal of people experiencing similar problems; regardless of graphical options that are chosen, the rig, with latest drivers etc bad choppy gfx & sound.
The sound seems to be ~80% fixed if you change your output to 24bit 48kHz, but still plenty to annoy.
The gfx are just like playing it on a flip book animation, changing sound as above does improve it, but not to the point that would make you stick with it. The cutscenes are even worse.
Shame, may have to swap for the 360 release unless a fix is soon available/suggestable.
Was looking forward to this one.
Not sure if that is what you would call a fix but it's working for me at the moment, though still seems to be some people it doesn't work for who have had these problems.
Anyway now able to play the game in smooth 2560*1600 and it's pretty entertaining thus far.
If anyone hasn't tried this yet, be sure to check it out at some point. It's just way too fun. Player movement is open and immense, yet precise - very cool. The storytelling, where reviews bash it most, is somewhat lacking - but it's charming in that way, endearing, you know? Because the game itself is amazing, so it doesn't matter.
Its very odd that all the people who finished the game after the first day it came it thought it sucked, while all the people that are playing it now all think it is great!
"Finished" the first day? I've got over 10 hours clocked and only completed half the story missions. Seriously, if someone's isn't going to spend copious amounts of time gleefully dicking around in free-roam mode or conquering the side challenges, maybe it's not their type of game. I got 80+ hours of enjoyment out of Oblivion and still haven't done the main compaign.
question - from what i remember on the box specs it needed a dual core?
i've still got a p4 with a cracking video card and plenty of ram...think it would still work?
My specs really suck - AMD Athlon 64 3700+, only 2GB RAM, 8600GT (not a very powerful card) - and it runs pretty nicely with graphics set to low. That might change if you're using a high native resolution. But even with graphics on "low," it looks great, which is pretty cool. There is a tiny bit of slowdown when lots of AI are doing their thing in certain areas of the city, but that's really just the cost of having an outdated system.

Ah, I thought this game was released two days ago, right? I guess I got my dates wrong :P
Congrats guys! A friend of mine got it on release day and wouldn't stop talking about it when I bumped into him, he made it sound like God's gift to gaming. Definitely going to be checking it out this weekend.
I'm taking my sweet time to complete the main missions, wasting all of it in free roaming, some situations that come up during strike team attacks are really awesome.
I like how the game is just plain brainless fun, core mechanics speak and work by themselves without the need of any coating of complex unbearable scenario or gimmicks, think this is something that has been lacking in a lot of recent games...
Bought it today and Ive been playing for about 4 hours straight! Really liking it sofar!
I wish it was possible to drive cars, because flying/jumping all over town get's annoying pretty fast. Also... what is up with the achievements??? You'd have to be a real loser to try and get most of them(kill 50.000 people, run 500 over in a single tank, collect 200 orbs... laaaame!)
Bought it today and it's completely fucking broken! Yay, paying for PC games that don't work! Guess I should just pirate from now on, at least I won't be throwing my money away. Now I get to have a fun day of trying to convince Steam to give me a refund.
If you're on Vista, Installing service pack 2 solved all my problems with the steam version.
Liking the game so far, but I haven't had chance to play much of it yet.
I am on Vista, but everything is fully updated. I've gone through the whole standard "update reboot reinstall" shebang, to absolutely no effect. I don't have any particularly esoteric hardware and I can run Crysis on High settings without problems.
Frustrating, but I decided I really wanted to get some sort of enjoyment out of my $50 so I did the only logical thing: Booted up Fraps, found an ironic song, and made a youtube video!
I bought it at the same time as the new red faction, I have to admit I ended up playing red faction over this, dunno why but I can't put my finger on it why I don't like it.
I managed to find a (totally crazy) fix. Basically the problem was Prototype was convinced I had a 360 controller hooked up to my PC. I don't know why, I've never even owned a 360 controller let alone had one anywhere near this PC. Not only that, but it had decided that I was also constantly mashing buttons on this imaginary 360 controller.
Ugh. I don't even know how that would happen. I program shit for a living and I seriously just don't understand. If I ever meet the person in charge of handling input on this PC port I'll just stand there shaking my head and saying "WTF man. WTF" over and over.
So I found a third party set of DLL's meant to allow you to emulate a 360 controller with other types of gamepads. That didn't work, but I did randomly come across a DLL in the process which blocks 360 controllers from functioning. That did the trick and it finally let me use my mouse and keyboard.
What a pain. Weirdest (and most inexcusable) PC port bug I've ever seen. And now I can't use my actual gamepad because it's being blocked.
Luckily the game kicks ass and lets me kill shit so I feel less angry.
Did you have a guitar hero controller plugged in by any chance? I only ask as I had similar funky issues with far cry 2 and it turned out that having the guitar controller plugged in was causing it.
Playing this myself, really enjoying it
EDIT: It would also be nice if the statistics showed the dollar cost of your damage. Though I'm not sure there is enough space for a number that large hehe.

way to go glib!
Iam looking forward to this one. Hope the reviews stay up there.

i absolutely love it so far.

still waiting on batman arkham, damn delays..
I bought it. Just looking for a weekend to play it on.
I heard I got a full credit? :P
Glad to see it's doing well on Metacritic. Sorry to see it's dropped tho.
congrats

I'm having fun now! Look, I even completed an objective!
I hope it works out for you, cause once you get going on it, shits gooooood.
