I created this ak for a free complete weapon creation video tutorial set that I need to edit down shortly. It took me about 3 or 4 days to make and record. It was textured at 4096x4096 and scaled down.

But I need to get some mod work done first. The props are calling me, or maybe I'm just going crazy! :P

I finally got around to uploading this. It's a pretty large download but contains around 7 hours of footage. This tutorial covers the complete creation of a modern weapon from start to finish. Everything is covered here including subd modeling, low poly creation, uving, baking, and texturing.

The sound isn't great but it will do.

The bake came out really well on this and the spec finishes off the edges around the gun nicely. I like the bit of tape you have on the back of the gun, it gives it a lot more character and tells a story to it a bit more. I can't quite tell what type of material the clip is supposed to be though. Is that wood or a painted metal?

is the mag supposed to be some kind of plastic? looks kinda weird that color, maybe a beige plastic one. i dont know, im not a big gun guy.

Haha, I forgot I even had a signature here. :P

The magazine is made from bakelite, which is a really old kind of plastic. The only thing it's ever really used for anymore are these magazines.

maybe more of that wavy marblyness would help sell it more. or more of a shine, but maybe its just because its not catching any light in that angle.

yea, is it going to cover everything? or mainly texturing like your crate tutorial? i REALLY want to do a weapon and this would sorta push me towards it.

that mag is made of bakelite, hence looking plastic.

yeah please let us know when your tutorial goes up. I've never really tried my hand at weapons but I want to eventually and as Zero said, it'd help push me in that direction as well just to see how people go about when making those types of assets.

hey there Racer445! You're crate hard surface texturing tutorial was really great, learnt a lot from it and followed very thoroughly to make that Doom3 crate prop I did a few days ago to practice all the steps you followed in the vid, and it really boosted my texturing skills...

So, saying that, I cannot wait for your next tutorial man! There's not much tutorials covering the whole workflow process of creating a weapon / prop (highP modeling, lowP modeling, bake and texturing) so i'm really looking forward to this! Hell, I know I'd pay for this!

Hey everyone thanks for the good response! The tutorial will cover the complete creation of the weapon including subd modeling, making the low poly, uving, baking, sorting out errors, and texturing.

Hey Racer, quality shit as always. Can you post your reference? The grip seems a bit undersized to me, and you have a lot of extra rivets and holes on the side of the receiver from what I remember of a 74u?
