So, I started on jouste's concept of the oarsman (hats off to him). I'm giving myself 5 weeks to finish this model, high, low, and textures. Rigging doesn't come into play in these 5 weeks, as I still have almost everything to learn about rigging.
To get the creative juices flowing, I started with the raz-oar. First time doing a blade, so it might suck ass. I'm almost done with it, just need to add the blood-soaked cloth nuder the blade.
Here are the concepts:

I kinda like the holes, makes it more interesting but if you can add other bits of interest might be an idea to take them out as crazyfingers said, it looses it's oar-ness with them in.

Take heed of how the bottom connects to the haft, too.
I'll scale down the end and the holes. As for how the blade connects to the shaft, I was debating whether it's a cloth or something solid. I think the blade seems short because of the width. I'll change it in a jiffy.
>>right here homie<<
feel free to use it whenever and have some fun with the project! if you feel that anything would look slicker another way than do it up!
keep going buddy!
are you going for the rendering style of the concept or just shape?
I'm going for as-close-as-I-can-get-it-so-jouste-doesn't-break-my-windows-at-night close:)
30 mins work, I didn't have much time today. Need to get into overdrive!
