Does anyone know what is needed to play xbox360 with headphones. Back in the days of ps2 I had CRT tv which had a headphone jack on the front, nowadays I have a fancy LCD tv with no headphone jack so what do I do. I have a regular white xbox with component cables and I don't have a amp or anything, just running the component cables directly from the xbox to the tv. Any help? Also this is nothing to do with xbox live this would be for single player action don't care about the mic or anything, just really noisy in my apartment these days so I can't hear my games.
well you can easily just get a stereo RCA converter to headphone jack, and bypass the tv straight to the headphones. You could also get 2 RCA spliters along with the RCA -> headphones and hook up both at once so you dont have to switch back and forth.
EQ, it's good to mention that the red/white stuff on the xbox end is male, and it's male aswell in the little audio jack converter you posted. So one would also need two little female/female connectors to put inbetween.
Actually i am a retard, i actually use with my tv exactly what you would want, i think.
So i pipe my xbox through one of hte inputs, and i have an rca-> 5.1 pc audio jack that i have connected to some nice logitech PC speakers.
If your TV is anything like mine, it has a standard audio output for hooking up to a stereo/additional speakers etc. You just need to use that first RCA->headphone converter i posted. And then in the menu(on my tv atleast) there is a setting to change the audio output from "fixed" to "variable". And i may have it backwards here but:
Fixed means your volume only controls the TV speakers, and the output volume is being sent out at a fixed strength, which for me was bad because i dont have a remote for the PC speakers.
Variable means your volume now controls the output, but in the case of my TV it turns off the TV speakers. Which i actually prefer, and which would be ideal for your usage.
Got the rca to head phone converter, just plugged it in and presto no sound. The only way I can get any form of sound from my xbox360 is plugging the white and red cables in that are attached to the component cable I use for video. I have an older sharp aquous 37" tv.
Oh wait, okay I figured it out. So I've got audio coming through the headphones now and I've set the output to variable so the speakers aren't producing sound, but the headphones are super quiet. Even maxing out the volume on the tv only brings it up to about half as loud as what the tv speakers can produce. Disappointing to say the least. It's too quiet to play like this at the moment I'm better off just cranking the volume on the speakers to some ungodly level.
Yeah i've got the same tv, or something very similar. The speakers i'm using are pretty nice Logitech with a nice subwoofer etc. You could look into getting a headphone amp, but probabbly not really worth it unless this is really important to you

you should be able to find these things for dirt cheap at any walmart/radioshack/etc
At work we use these in the Playtest lab. There is a lot of cables, but you get the mic as well.

(or, find a RCA-minijack converter with females RCA ends, obivously. But still, double female RCAs are good to have around.)
