What's original about this? That they call themselves original? Don't get me wrong, it could well be mindblowingly refreshing, but I'll reserve judgement untill I get a more substantial look at some gameplay.
Except for judgement on the setting, you can have that right now: They're touting originality, but they're using spacemarines? And there's "A number of different interactive environments, ranging from claustrophobic space stations to large outdoor levels."
Oh my! Interstellar Marines indeed!
I'm hoping they pull it off though, I'd be interested to see what this small team pulls off.
Why does every goddamn sci-fi game/movie needs to have marines as protagonists?
People outside the US don't give a damn about marines (I don't at least), maybe it's about time someone make a game about cosmonaut soldiers, the royal space force or even north-korean space soldiers, who knows?? The possibilities are endless...
Getting to play an space opera game set in a different culture other than the typical american military stuff would be quite refreshing and fun.

They have SHARKS with LEGS attacking them.
SHARKS.
WITH LEGS.
In this day and age, thats actually something to look forward to...

fine, i'll make a space game, as soon as i figure out XNA.
I think I remember seeing a trailer for this months back... I've never seen less colour in a game in my life. Not even Gears of War has a patch on the amount of grey in this game.
Interstellar Marines is an AAA, FPS, Sci-fi, action and adventure game with an original and unpredictable storyline featuring single and cooperative gameplay, with heavy focus on realism.
This is marketing talk for: We're making a Halo ripoff
battle astronauts would fight in space, or maybe ship to ship. It would be logical for (interstellar-naval) battleships to carry large amounts of Combostranauts if combat doctrine was heavily focused on boarding other ships, or battling over large installations like space station.
They're called space marines because if you're calling your spaceships a navy it's the next logical step -- 'members of a body of troops trained to serve on land or at sea ' -changes to- 'members of a body of troops trained to serve on land or in space'

Still - astronaut literally means Star Sailor, but someone decided that that would be a really sucky name for such a cool concept and just went with a Greek name. Babelfish gives ναυτικό (nautiko) as the Greek word for marine, so astronaut could mean star marine anyway.
And Battle Astronaut being shortened to Badass as opposed to SM is also a plus.
As i said to a friend. It seems like they are doing this "AAA Indie" thing to get a cool image (it is a cool concept after all) but it seems to be just like any other small studio. As far as i´ve heard they have an investor that gives them money (just not a publisher).
Oh well. As long as it works for them. The game itself. Sceptical.
uhg "on a routine mission" laaaaaaame. seriously if i hear that one more time im gonna have to gank a bitch. the gameplay looks like the most generic coridor shooter, everything is colorless and the designs of everything reek of early-mid 90's mainframe tv shows. haha this might seem kinda harsh but it just seems soooo blah and genericly ripping off everything, especially their robot companion.......robocop anyone? :P jesus even the title is unimagineative.
who knows, this could be the suprise hit of the century but i somehow doubt ill ever see it released. no offense to anyone working on it meant, just my impressions from looking at the site and the 2 trailers available.

It's in the trailer they made a while back (I think it was 2005), you really have to dig around to find it.
It's not any actual game play, its all "what would a trailer for a game we haven't made yet, look like" then they hacked a bunch of shots together that look like they're real time. It more or less worked for them because things took off after that.
Or so said the video I watched while trying to find the new content...

That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard anyone say about anything ever.

That was a joke, no need to get your g-suit in a bind
I'm guessing studios assume Americans only want to play American characters

Whenever I hear the name Marine or Space in the title, I think ...
"CINEMACTION MOMENT"!!!

Proving once more that there is an XKCD comic suitable for all occasions.
I don't think I actually have anything relevant to add to the thread.
