The fundamentals of 3D that can applied to learning any program?

Hi everyone. The main app i'm using right now is softimage, but from what I've experienced every 3d app can basically do the same thing as the next but each app has it's own workflow, advantages, and disadvantages. It got me thinking though.

Is there any resources that don't completely concentrate on one package, but will teach you all the general fundamentals and processes that can be applied to any project. No matter what application you use?

The only books that I have found so far with what I'm basically looking for are these.

Is there anything someone would like to add? Tutorials, articles, advice, anything. My goal is to be able to learn as much about 3D as possible, but to also know enough to be able to transition quicker to other packages. Of course, I'd like to be a good artist first, so I understand learning art fundamentals is very important.

Thanks for any input.
