I was wondering if anyone knows how epic setup their render settings to get those nice looking clay type renders on their highpoly models? I really like how they look, and how they bring out the details.
i'd say since it's most likely rendered in max, looks like a skylight (for the ambient occlusion), a fill light (slightly yellow/orange, from the in front and to the top right) and a rim light (strong blue from behind and to the top left)... and a fairly basic red/orange material.
It's a max render, might have been a mental ray render, probably 4 lights, fill, rim, main , back light. I think thats what Kevin was generally using when he did his UT characters.
I followed that one tut that was included in this thread and it produced something similar, but not exactly to that. But I would just have to play with the lighting and colors I think.
