The motion of the griffon is absolutely stunning. I have never seen an in game character with so much believability. If they can hit that level of quality across the rest of the game, it will be a landmark achievement in game development.
and we /the player) are the ones having to kill it.
That's exactly what I was thinking. I reckon that you befriend it when it's really young and as it ages and grows it becomes wilder and more dangerous. In the end you have to kill it as it's going around gobbling up entire villages full of orphans and old folks. Maybe.
I'm so excited at the prospect of this game. God bless Team Ico!
Looks fantastic, sorta like a Japanese "Where the wild things are" vibe going on. Only question is why the hell it's using the (great) Miller's Crossing music.
maybe some princess mononononononononoke style brought up by griffons, i cant wait, and the art looks stunning, not in detail but in big picture, they always aced the lighting and atmosphere so i cant wait for this
pft, all you think the griffin will die in the end, but have you thought maybe the kid will die instead, and in the final moments the ratcatogryfn tries to save it, and ultimately kills himself as well?
The kid will die, you guys will cry, (me too if i get it) then the griffon will cry and with its magic tears the boy will come back to life. then there is going to be a happy moment then the kid wakes up from the dream, u guys are like WTF...(that sucks) and then another cutscene the kid stands up to the bullies in school. The end.
Looks promising, but I feel bad for the team to have such old (or, old-looking) material leaked out.
The atmosphere is as fantastic as before, but comon guys some parts of that trailer are horrible.
Justin, I really don't think these games should be seen as prequels and sequels. It's just the same art style. Kinda like Zelda follows no timeline, it's just a loose underlying thing that grounds the games.
True that some of the parts in this test trailer are unrefined (I particularly do not like the eye shots in the beginning), but I think that I will love the end product no matter what. I might not be able to play it until six years later due to a lack of PS3, but still. Team Ico is just magical somehow.
well not a prequel in the normal sense but a shared world and history.
Wired News: Is there any connection between the worlds of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus?
Fumito Ueda: There's no specific connection as far as a timeline. But, both games exist in the same world.
WN: But you've said the baby we see at the end of Colossus is the first "baby born with horns" referred to in the backstory of Ico.
FU: Yes. I wanted to give some idea to the player, after you complete the game, that there was a connection to Ico. That's why I put in the baby with the horns. If somebody goes all the way through the game, I wanted them to be rewarded.
I read once about how these guys make games. basicly the lead designer goes off on his own and makes a fake gameplay video that shows how the game should play. The team then uses this as a guide on the art style and gameplay to make the game around. I can't remember where i read that, but i was really intrigued. Considering how thier games tend to have a much clearer vision i think thier method works wonders. man i wish i had a ps3 now.

I can't fucking wait to see what it looks like now, and I hope they show a new trailer at E3.
SO stoked for this... looks amazing already.
But now I'm thinking what their 4th game will be called
1. Ico
2. Nico (Shadow of the Collossus)
3. Trico (???)
4. Quadico?
here's a list of the number 4 in different languages:

Any other guesses as to what they'll call it?
Makes sense, when I was first watching it I thought it looked pretty bad honestly. Some parts were nice, but overall I wasn't impressed...
Eagle-cat thing looked and animated awesomely. Main character looked really lacking. Very interested to see where a year's work could take that.

I don't like the look of the kid much but the creature and animation especially is awesome!
Except in the end you'll probably have to kill Totoro.
or maybe just watches the kid die? :P
lolololololol
The eating animation on the ceagle is amazing...can't wait to play this.
Was the video leaked? I thought they would have waited for E3
remember to wait until after the credits!
My eyes ! What is wrong with my eyes!

I've still sadly only played a bit of shadow of the colossus and want to play through ico as well.
I love ICO and Shadow though. Looking forward to this one.
this is entirely the point.
I have one of these big black hoovers already. you can get them second hand off crack addicts for next to nothing. Just check craigslist.
The lack of dialogue in these games often attracts me. Can't wait.
