it's seems strange to me to think the drummer from Pelican is also the drummer from Lair of The Minotaur, especially with the new more emo direction Pelican is going these days.
on that note; Lair of The Minotaur! I got to see them live at a tiny dive bar in Chicago called The Empty Bottle with Boris and a couple of kind of terrible local doom bands, they were fantastic live
edit: on that note, Lair of The Minotaur made me think about how kick ass High on Fire also is (and how I sadly missed seeing them in Chicago because of my sister's wedding)
it's seems strange to me to think the drummer from Pelican is also the drummer from Lair of The Minotaur, especially with the new more emo direction Pelican is going these days..
LOL emo? bwah..... they dont even have a singer! Also have you heard their lates EP? Its bad ass and not really like their last album.
These guys are all acoustic/instrumental and are a shit ton harder/more brutal than most American Metal bands. Gotta give it up to the damn Nords for coming up with crazy music.
I only know Tragedy even exists because kick-ass Jason Netherton from a favorite of mine - Misery Index (he was in Dying Fetus before that) is always wearing a Tragedy shirt.
Heres a band nobody seems to know about, from what i can tell
Tragedy
Dude, it's awesome to see another Crust fan out here. I love Tragedy, more than His Hero is Gone. have you had a chance to check out the singer of Catharsis new band, Requiem? If you like crust. . .you'll love that.
ErichWK: I'll have to check out those other bands you said. Tragedy is probably the only one i really listen to! If you have any other reccomendations let me know.
Death- The Sound of Perseverance is timeless!
HAHA thats funny Pope. I almost posted Throwdown in here, but felt like i was flooding too many vids. The sound/production on their latest album is SICK! i can't believe it. So bad ass!
I can see the Pantera relation but the torch i'm iffy on mostly because of Panteras range both across albums and within albums all with very memorable songs... i.e. 5 Seconds Alone/Good friends and a bottle of pills to songs like Floods, all the way to the old stuff or any stuff with much its vocals to the later stuff and its (different) vocal range. But yeah i do see it, dont get me wrong. Almost like a natural progression off of Vulgar Display of Power.
Throwdown is pretty frickin bad ass! I kinda used to always see them as hardcore like Terror, atleast when i first got into them.
Actually if you really want to hear something very influenced by Pantera!
The whole album........ one of the songs is very much like Reinventing the Steel.
I know by carying the torch you probably don't mean "sound-like" exaclty though. I know what you mean.... I just thought i'd post the Perfect Murder thing and make some stupid comments i should have left very well enough alone.
rv_el - for sure yeah, I don't think they're coming anywhere close to Pantera's status or variety but there are some elements in there, namely the way they structure the songs on their most recent album, and a few off of the vendetta album. What also stands out to me is the vocal stylings with the dynamic note choices yet still being very heavy and growly.
The A Perfect Murder song sounds so much like Pantera it's nuttybars.
When I first heard A Perfect Murder, I thought it was another one of Phil Anselmo's dozen or so side projects. Nothing against them, I think it's great music, just the vocals were SO close to Phil's.
Also, being a giant nerd, and into documentaries, I saw both, Metal: A Headbangers Journey, and Global Metal. They're done by the same guy, and here's a trailer for Global Metal [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiOqGIWlFx8[/ame]
Get Thrashed was really good too, focusing on the thrash metal mmovement of the '80's. All the bands that made me love metal were present in that doc, Slayer, Anthrax, Nuclear Assault, the list goes on.
And just to get back to the metal vids, here's some new Chimaira:
