Here's my first real attempt at a Portfolio worthy piece. Been working on it with some help from my teacher. Still uncertain what to put in as a background, Lots of advice/crits are more than welcome! Thanks. -- Side note, there is no texture on the Yacht currently.. Still working on that part lol.

Looks like your getting some smoothing errors were the circle in the front part of the boat is. Pineapple pizza has more life to it then your lighting too. Either put some pineapples into the scene or increase the brightness and contrast to it so that it wont look so dull (I recommend the latter ;] )

Guard rails seem a bit flat to to be guard rails. You have reference for those? Also, are you planning on doing the particles for the wave breaks in the front of the boat?

I would wonder if you could put anything on top of the bridge, like people looking down or a car or two zooming by. Maybe alight pull so that it wont look so empty.

Thanks, I fattend up the rail a bit because i agree w/ it looking a big flat. and i like the idea of puting somthing on the bridge. I think i'll do a car up there. that sounds good

I took the porthole out of the front completly i couldn't quite get it to work out properly and it looks fine w/o it

you could put a nice cityscape in the background... you could probably get away with even using a photograph or something modeled very simple, don't want to take attention away from your yacht. Looks pretty cool here so far - diggin the reflection.

Your scale feels a bit weird. The boat seems really small for a bridge that would be constructed completely from brick/stone. I'd go for something a little more around this size for that type of boat. Right now it feels more like a walkway bridge instead of something a car could pass over, beef up the bridge at its peek. Any plans on putting it into an engine yet?

Yea, I was 1/2 thinking of a picture just to throw back there too. I like the idea of a city in the background, that sounds like it'd work really well. At the moment i have some plane that i put a displacement map on its looks Ok but I'm going to try a picture now that you mention it!

and Rdm, I was thinking the exact same. I like the idea of making the top of the bridge larger. and its easy to do! lol. I'll size up the boat a little too, my teacher said it looked like a good size but looking at the picture you have there it seems like it needs to be ALOT bigger lol. I'll Implement the changes mentiond and see how it turns out. thanks again for all the feedback ^^ Much appreciated!

added a background and it worked out great!, beefed up the boat a bit so it seems a bit more to scale. texture for bridge, and rail are final. have yet to put something up top yet, sifting through old files to see if i can find a car or somthing lol. I made the top of the bridge a little thicker like you said but i ended up making it a bit to thick so i scaled it back a bit... still dunno if it could support a car but it looks a little better yea? lol -- question do the buildings in the background look to big? i might play around w/ the size of that i think.

A large improvement lighting wise, though it can still be improved. I think you should add some bushes, shrubs , trees etc near the bank, I don't think grass would just fade off into the water.

Also, the vines growing up the bridge, alpha map some leaves, foliage, and add discoloration to the bridge texture.

    EDIT

The water colour would probably be darker, dark blue/green - Murky.

The scale is better now, but still this whole scene is too surreal to be accepted by the majority if you know what I mean :) No idea why you have chosen boat going under bridge, but not the best scene in the world for sure :(

Still you're doing well and you need to approach the texturing of the boat now, good luck!
