I'm working on a character in 3ds max 9, and i'm trying to unwrap the character using multiple uvs (one for the head, and another for the body etc.).
Just to make things more complicated, I'm also planning on normal mapping in zbrush, so i know that I have to change the the region of the uv space in max, or the uvs will be overlapping in zbrush...
I was wondering if anyone knows of any good tutorials (even books) for doing this?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Anyway if you still want to do it under max9 you have to split up your body parts by UV (head, body, ect.). And then simply unwrap each Object with unique UV`s (no overlapping or stacking parts) since you want to normal map them.
maybe look up some general 3dsmax UV mapping tutorials, the ones that are intended for your needs (beginner, intermediate, ...). Maybe also check out this thread:
