One thing present in that performance missing from 99% of the "music industry", and that's passion. Fire. Soul. Call it what you want, but those musicians have it and the ones you hear on the radio don't. Makes me wanna dig out my old vinyl collection again...
the music of today is too commercial, its all about the moneyzzz oh dum dum damdamdam dam
hear my voice, how clear, yeeey!
also every instrument needs to be filter 20x to perfection, while it only makes it sound more fake.
here at work we have a radio playing, its really depressing music.

no give me the raw sound of the 70's,
thanks for the link, really cool
man are you listening to the wrong music. with the internet and home recordings it's so much easier today to find passionate artists and music boiled down to its core, you just have to look.
don't get me wrong, the 70's had some great stuff, but don't discount today because the radio is tuned to crap.
Its great that they got to share their awesome talents with the world. It would be great if this could be used in someway for something other then "cool internet video of the moment".

heheh
dont get me wrong, i listen to alot and i have searched and found great things, but those mostly dont fit into this genre of music.
and even those who are really awesome to the core, arent comparable to the 70s i think,
its just a unique sound that not many seem to be able to reproduce, or wanting to reproduce because of the wants from the society of today
if im missing such a band, please state me wrong and post it
kind of reminds me of the Buena Vista Social Club. Some random guy, going and finding awesome musicians who have been lost/forgotten, and bringing them back to popularity. If you guys have never seen that documentary, I highly recommend it.
God I hate sounding like a stickler. And its even worse that this isn't public know-how (yet, we're on it!), but these sorts of threads belong in the Thread of Awesomeness (Because hey, that was awesome).

I must be the only one here who wasn't blown away... I think the original version of the song is about a million times better. This reinterpretation seems to have lost something along the way. It started out pretty good, I think the base track with the first street musician would've held up pretty well on its own, but then they layered too much stuff on top and gave it a "We Are the World" vibe.
The original song is very minimalistic -- it's just a simple bass line with vocals and almost no percussion other than a triangle and what sounds like brushes on a snare (and eventually some strings in the background) -- I think that's why the emotion of original resonates so much: because there's nothing to subtract from it.
Haven't the producers of this version heard the idiom "less is more"? or "too many cooks spoil the broth"? I guess I'm just a cold hearted bastard :P

We'll keep this thread open, rather than close it, but for next time please drop your video posts in there rather than making a new thread for it.
Now back to your regular scheduled programming...
thanks for the link, that was awesome.
