Hey guys, What's the low down on affordable game engines? I've done some research at places like devmaster.net and so forth, but I'm looking for info on engines that may not be advertised there. If your company has a decent modern engine, or you know of any, please post about it.

We've been using Unity 3D extensively, it's hands down the best I've touched. I've used several others, some proprietary and some liscensed, and Unity is heads and tales above all of them. And what's better, as opposed to most engines out there, the more I've used Unity the more I've liked it.

I'm working with as small dev team who's using the C4 engine. The license seems fairly inexpensive and the tech is comparable to most current gen engines. You can check out the feature list as well as some other information here: http://www.terathon.com/c4engine/features.php

Torque is a pretty cheap engine ($150) and has been around for a while, but one of the teams here are using Unity, and it seems quite nice.
