What! A trailer?! Why hadn't I seen this?? I've been fawning over that game for over a year now. Swedish PC Gamer had a huge article and interview about it that I read several times back at school. It's such a crazy project, but he's pulling it off with such grace.
Don't worry about it losing its charm, it's stayed perfectly intact since the first time I saw it. And with a single guy developing it, there's no risk of freedom being sacrificed for "gameplay" like what happened with Spore.
I love how personal and quirky they are, how he has asteroids in his editor and particle effects in his modeling packing when doing stuff. Tasty.
He also has some interesting thoughts on game development pipelines. http://news.quelsolaar.com/#post41
The tech is incredible. Just amazing. He has focused down on what is important to make a really exciting game and delivered big time.
The gameplay. . . I'm not so sure. There is definitely something fun out there for tech like this that allows' on-the-fly modification. Voxelstein 3D comes to mind. I'm not sure what the fun thing is, but I hope these guys find it.
just watched the vid: thats not new :P posted on polycount ages agooo
boo
yeah gameplay from that vid looks boring to me (the fighting).. but that was 5 months ago
when I first saw it I was imagining more about exploration and survival in wilderness than straight forward pvp combat. pcg showed pics of the procedurally generated monsters, they looked cool and bigfootish
I agree with Cojax, its not very appealing to me either. All I can see is silhouettes of geometry, a lot of particle fog and over exposed bloom. I had no idea what was going on or what I was looking at half the time.
Ugly isn't the term I would use personally to describe the game, but then again, neither is the word pretty. Its so far from my cup of tea that its almost coffee.
I'll have to have a look at the tech videos though, they might peak my interest a lot more than the actual game itself.
thats really awesome, instead of struggling with all these bloated software packages he just made his own simple tools. You couldn't make gears of war with it ofcourse but for what he's making it looks perfect!

I find it even more impressive that he made his own tools including modeling and automatic UV Unwrap tools, that's crazy!
Check out this video showing them. http://www.quelsolaar.com/love/tool_video.html
They are open source too http://www.quelsolaar.com/files/index.html
