Is there any way to make your subtools the same lighting as your selected tool? They always go dark, and it's difficult to see how parts would look together.
You can fill each subtool with a material color. So, select your subtool, make sure Mrgb and rgb are turned off. Turn on M for material, then go to the color tab at the top and fill object.
Later if you decide that you want to go back to how zbrush orginally displayed your model, you can fill all the objects with the flat color material. That should reset everything. Now you can go about switching through all the different materials without having to fill the object everytime.
PeterK, I don't have a solution to this either, but I don't find the difference in tone too jarring for some reason, at least when I'm using the standard materials (BasicMaterial and FastShader) If anything, I'm toning the subtools with color like penrod described to see how the subtools would look together textured.
