anyone going there?

Its like the GDC except it's in Germany (Stuttgart to be exactly) and has a stronger focus on the visal side. Lots of movie/ FX and game companies will be present.

To sum up which big companies will be there and tell their secrets of development or run recruitment panels:

There are lot's of presentations and they usually focus on behind the scenes of the CG artists. For example Pixar's renderman team did a great presentation last year showing and promoting their renderman package with some never before seen shots of Wally back then.
The guys even really appreciate questions you have - so I really recommend it if you want to get in touch with the industry leads in Visual effects and now more coming games.

Personally it is my 3rd visit the first 2 times I was a speaker at the eyes & Ears Junior-Showcase showing off some work. This time I get again free Entrance because my University pays for me and we have a booth there: promoting for the new Master Study at our university.

What I really enjoyed in the last years were the Crytek presentations booth character modeling/ rigging and environment stuff, but also in depth presentations of software like Modo or CAT and lots of other stuff.
There are even some masterclasses form autodesk for which you need to register ahead though.

been there the past 2 years and am going there again with some classmates. not sure if our school is going to have a booth this year, so probably no free entrance for me.
but it's definitely worth it.

Hey great to see this little thing growing up. I presented for Softimage at FMX a few years back, and then it wasnt much more than a small gathering of local companies. I wont be there this time, but seems like a great opportunity to drop some portfolios around. And stuttgart is a pretty nice city too! worth checking out

That a really impressive schedule and lineup. If there was 10 of me i would go to everyone of those events. Shame the exchange rates suck at the moment and the tickets are pretty exspensive otherwise i would seriously consider going.

I remember the days when the FMX was very small, and just a handfull of people came. I think 96 was the first time I went there, then 98 they had some ILM guys showing an all digital frankenstein movie, which never was finished... And when the heat between maya and max presentation was still on, and people were calling names for "stealing features"
