ouch man, I was layed off early last week It got me really down , but ive been bouncing back pretty well at this point, Dont get to down (you already have a polycounter willing to help you get a new job....seriously dont be to upset) are you allowed to show off any of your work at this point (im sure you must )
bugger that sucks dude, but i mirror others comments in that your work is too good for you to have to sell tricks for too long till the next job
i hope you did the edward norton/fight club trick of beating yourself up in the boss's office, and got a sweet redundancy package - that or you could just pulp your boss in similar fashion.........
its all a bit of a mess, a bit my fault and a bit corporate assmunchery
a few months back there was a lot of layoffs, several good friends got cut. after that i had a bit off a meltdown and a loss of morale i really dropped the ball on a piece i was working on after that i came back and got back on track but aparently they decided after we finished this stretch and made art lock for the expansion i would be expendable and that would be a good point for them to harp on.
if they woulda let me go with the original cuts i woulda also got a much much much better severnce package.
oh ya in the last month of the expansion art lock, they also refused to let me take vacation time that was built up past the 200 hour limit, so i was working but not earning any pto time. so basicaly just taking money from me
Any vacation time you have banked should be paid out after you leave, within a certain reasonable period. At least it would be in Canada, I don't know about the states.
I feel your pain, trust me. I was essentially hoodwinked into working through my (tiny) severance package with the promise of a new permanent job after it was done. There was no job.

good luck to you, moving and renting is a pain, im in the process of renting my house in manchester out. but its a fucking renters market there and expensive here in edinburgh, so the cross over time makes you poor, good thing to try and get it sorted befor you move as travel costs to-in and fro-ing are suck

Sucks that they did you that way but that's how they roll. I don't see good things in the future of Mythic. Chris Dien left and is now a concept artist with us at Cryptic. its so odd havin to put together a work station at home my max shortcuts are all gone and my mouse here.. feels heavy.. i guess after you get used to workin on one system for years switching is a pain
Yea, I don't see how a company can slash and burn and not expect the few remaining woodland creatures to not be shell shocked and have productivity drop off. But it sounds like its a typical, oh crap we're not making our money back (or we're not making enough to fill EA's empty belly) lets revert to the old ways and screw over everyone that worked so hard.
It's hard enough to keep up moral when everyone is working, let alone when something big and tragic happens. They probably don't care and just blame the employees for being lazy when they are actually in a state of mourning. But if they are circling the drain, you can't blame them for trying to keep a life raft afloat.
If they survive they will probably end up cleaning out all the old timers and having to start fresh, but that will take time and as the new and old forces mingle the new will just pick up the jaded mentality of the old. Which will probably lead to turn over, yea I think they're screwed. Hopefully if anyone is still there they can get out in one piece.
